Though I read the BMW just packed the high-end one in all cars at the beginning to streamline manufacturing, not sure whether that is still the case.
You are right

5DF is limited to 160 km/h. 5AU - to 210 km/h. Other than that, 5DF appears quite OK for 450€. 5AU costs 2000€.

For G30, 5DF costs 1200€. For G01, 5DF costs 900€. But, they are limited to 210 km/h - not 160 km/h like G20.
For me, lower cost and 160 km/h limit is quite fine compromise. You can add 5AU if you really need 210 km/h.

5DF Active Cruise Control

Camera and radar-based driver assistance system consisting of cruise control with approach control, Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator, manual Speed Limit Assist, front collision warning with brake intervention.

Cruise control with approach control enables:
- regulation of distance from vehicle in front by radar sensors in the bumper
- automatic maintenance of queue speed and distance in stop-and-go traffic and in traffic jams, right down to complete standstill Automatic pull-away after short stops (1–3 s)
- Operation of the active cruise control via multifunction for steering wheel. Desired speed (30-160 km/h) and distance (4 steps) adjustable.
- function also detects stopped vehicles as target objects
- switch to 'Cruise control' without approach control possible.

- Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator with display of speed limits further ahead and no-overtaking indicator

- (manual) Speed Limit Assist:
The Speed Limit Assist function combines Speed Limit Info with active cruise control and enables the predictive adoption of a detected speed limit into the Active Cruise Control (ACC) via an additional operation step.

Front collision warning with brake intervention consisting of approach control warning with braking function, person warning with city braking function and adaptive brake assist enables:
- situation-dependent pre-filling of the brake system and lowering of the trigger threshold of the 'brake assist' to provide maximum braking power in situations where collisions are likely.
- Reaction to vehicles ahead in a speed range of 5–200 km/h
- Reaction to stationary targets at up to 85 km/h
- Reaction to cyclists and pedestrians in a speed range of 10–65 km/h

Please note: the system scopes contained in the optional equipment only provide assistance within defined system limits. It remains the responsibility of the respective driver to react to the actual traffic situation.

Yes, 450EUR is good value, especially since BMW dropped the forced Live Cockpit Connected Drive (so full digital dash) requirement that 5DF initially had - you can now order it without any further restrictions besides the steptronic.

The 160 km/h is maybe a bit on the lower end for people on the Autobahn, but I believe you can at least set a higher speed in regular (non-adaptive)cruise-control mode (this is not possible on Volkswagen-brand cars which also have the 160/210 distinction, but there you cannot switch to non-adaptive mode at all and are then stuck at 160 km/h with the lower-end version).

Honestly, gesture controls. I got them as a gimmick mostly, ended up using it for almost all my media needs. Not having fingerprints on the touchscreen is just a bonus (altho I guess you could use the regular controls for that just as well).

I find the gesture control virtually useless. The volume up and down works (but much easier to use the steering wheel controls), but everything else is very temperamental.

I turned off gesture control because I guess I talk with my hands more than I had thought - which I still don't think I do but enough so to activate it.

I also turned up the feature of the car automatically braking when about to hit something while backing up since more than once it didn't let me back out of my garage. A truly surreal experience. When I'm next in for service I'll ask if the sensors can be dialed down a bit because even with the auto braking off it still screams bloody murder at me.

I did the same. Backing onto my driveway, the sensors picked up some leaves on my hedge and the car slammed the brakes on. Nearly broke my neck. That was turned off straight away

Interesting, sorry to hear your experience is so poor. I honestly think I've had better than 95% success rate (including the custom gesture controls) using this system and I'm absolutely loving it.

I'll admit that I'm also a very hand-talkative type of person, but it has had minor impact on my gesture control system. I'm wondering if this is possibly because of height/body type differences?

Intelligent Personal Assistant funny command

Driver Assistant Pro, HUD and Apple Car Play. I have used it for 2 months and it looks I will not be able to drive a car without the Driver Assistant in a few weeks... Also, the Intelligent Personal Assistant. The Brazilian version replies the command "hey bmw, eject the passenger" with "activating the module... 5 4 3 2 1... just kidding...". Did anyone try this out in other languages? Very funny imho... Probably there are more such funny commands... BTW, is there any list of all comands available?

Seems no one has mentioned Auto Hold braking. I thought it was a gimmick, but it has become my favorite thing when driving in rush-hour traffic.

I really wish I got the remote start. I love auto hold, 3D remote view and backup assistant. Why does it tighten the steering so much when reversing manually or is it just me?

You all seem to be happy with auto hold. Is it because you can let go of the break? What about the fine throttle control when loosening up the brake? During my test drive I disabled the auto hold because I found the gas pedal too responsive compared to what I'm used to by holding and slightly releasing the brakes.

Tried it in Dutch at the dealer, didn't work either.

I also talk with my hands too much & kept inadvertently changing things, so I turned off, but just found it --see page 58 of owners manual

So far the lane change assist looks like a 2020 G20 option? My 2019 G20 does not have that option, it has Driver Assist Pro etc. I hope either the update adds it or it can be coded =|

My favorite thing is not having to physically search for restaurants, grocery stores, shopping malls, etc. I just hit the microphone button and say "costco" or "walmart" or whatever local restaurant or business i am looking for and it pops up on my screen and asks if i want to accept navigation. I love that it searches yelp/google so even the the most obscure places pop right up. It's also amazing how much better this system can understand what i am saying. It's been 99% accurate. So convenient on the highway-no longer need to bust out google maps on my phone.
