Looks like the timer just started to enjoy these traditional powered cars we all know and love.

My biggest gripe since moving to this state has been the politics. This is simply disheartening and a pure political stunt as a response to the wildfires.

Just a simple way for a politician to say something that makes some part of the population happy and is meaningless when it comes to stuff we have to do in the short/medium term. I see nothing in the article that requires anyone to do anything this year or even in the next 5 years.

My wife said she wants to go on an African safari someday. I said yes. I committed to almost nothing.

Because in 15 years they might not be able to buy a new ICE? I would probably start worrying about it 12 years from now, giving me 3 years to work it out.

This is the same load of crap that politicians usually give. "We will cut spending by 30% over the next 15 years", but when you read the fine print, spending goes up each of the next 3 years, followed by massive cuts later, after the guy is out of office.

Yes absolutely. This state punishes people who work for a living, has the highest real estate prices in the country outside of Manhattan, has the highest taxes in the nation, and doesn't have anything to show for it. California, by its very nature, is an attractive place. But the politicians here have slowly but surely been ruining the golden state over the decades.

For a big time car enthusiast like myself, this would be the final straw. I like a lot of aspects about living here, but after putting up with everything I mentioned above along with a ban on my favorite hobby, I'd have to call it quits on CA.

I think it is a reasonable time table. Well before then we will have performance cars that are electric or hydrogen powered...we even have a couple today (Taycan, e.g.).

I am sure that the folks who loved their horse drawn buggies felt the same way.

There seems to be a big loophole in that you could just buy a car out-of-state (ie. Oregon or Nevada) and simply drive it back to CA. Seeing how the auto industry is to slowly shifting to electric cars though, one has to wonder how good the selection of new ICE cars will even be by 2035. Maybe M cars won't even be ICE powered by that time.

You listed lots of reasons to leave that have nothing to do with this ban in 15 years and all make sense.

The "this would be the final straw", 15 years from now? Nothing is happening now.

I don't know why anyone would choose to live in CA at all.

I'm fine with it. In 15 years it's doubtful there will even be that many purely ICE cars available. Those that lived here in the 80s (especially LA) will know how bad it was prior to the stringent emission laws that were passed.

Those that really want that ICE car don't need to throw a tantrum. You can still buy one in a neighboring state and register it in CA.

Many years ago I lived a block away from the beach in California. Lasted for 2 years and if I had a huge amount of money and didn't have to deal with the daily traffic I would love to live in certain places in the state.

I was born and lived in FL for 18 years, zero interest in going back.

The media tends to sensationalize the negatives, but day-to-day living is as normal as any other urbanized place in America.

I didn't start this thread to spark any political discussions - just simply wanted to discuss the impending electric-powered future.

Electric cars do have their merits, but at this point this ban seems like a bad thing only because there just doesn't seem to be much good selections. The Taycan is the only electric car that seems interesting to me, but at $150K~ starting price it's just a novelty for the 1%. Perhaps when there are $60K~ enthusiast-focused electric cars out there, the switch won't be so bad.

Those reasons are absolutely related to this ban. This is consistent with California's nanny-state policies that are founded more on ideology rather than practicality. One of my reasons for moving here was the perfect climate and abundance of world famous canyon roads. This feels like a direct personal attack on my hobby.

If EVs are an amazing technology that consumers want, then they increase in popularity on their own. It's one thing to set a goal as a state to improve the electricity grid and EV charging infrastructure, it's another thing to ban ICE cars as an act of symbolism.

And what is everyone going to plug these cars into? An electric grid that can't handle the demands already being placed on it?

The electric grid was overloaded because half the state was on fire, which when that is the case they turn off the huge transmission wires. The grid is only a problem when the state is on fire and we have abnormal spikes in temperature.

Nazi california.... where all the retarded ideas become laws, where people with harmless hobbies are punished but drug addicts are given free needles and housing to get high, where the working class is ripped off so the homeless and illegals can have benefits.... haven't lived there in 9 years and don't miss a second of it. Things there need to change QUICK

The state that has a power grid that can’t even survive a heat wave and is so poorly maintained it causes multiple wildfires is now going to support an entire state of electric car users. Yeah right... 15 years is not that far away.

We'll see how it goes and if they push the date back further in some 10-12 years. Might as well buy from Montana like the exotics if it goes this route. Assuming of course they are still making brand new ICE cars in 15 years.

If we are still working from home at that point it will make owning one electric city car and a second just for fun car a lot easier. Plus, the primary car will likely be a subscription service so we can shift from the electric X3 to an electric 7 series when needed. Have the second pure fun car being a garage queen and a weekend outing ready to go. Subscription electric grocery getter and a 4C doesnt sound too bad...
