oh I think I know the reason why BMW starts to make big grilles. The idea is to make BMW look like Rolls Royce. They are family afterall and they have to look alike in some way.

In the future, they can merge the design and create some hybrid designs.

That GRILLE sits way too high for my liking. If they had used the CSL Hommage concept they would have been on to a winner.

Future reviews, for the M's will roughly say, 'great car, face that only a mother could love'.

I'm actually amazed BMW are doing this with a volume car like the 4 series. The company, like most manufacturers, is not in the rudest of health, hence the product cull going on. The fallout from diesel is hurting them, as is the financial commitment required for EV.

I could have lived with the grilles actually, but every design cue here is to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

The Z4 and it's frog like front end was a give away that BMW was about to go full stupid; they have no design inspiration. And, behold.
Does this mean you'll be purchasing a Kia Stinger? Pics or bust!!!

Why not a Stinger? Seriously?

The Stinger suspension and dynamics are the result of Albert Biermann's team and the former BMW M-Division suspension engineers. Remember the team responsible for the E30 - E46 M3? They're at Kia now.

The Kia and the current Cadillacs drive, handle, and ride better than current BMW M-cars. Based on first hand experience. Seems to be the consensus of the automotive press, too.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Mine is that the current lineup has nothing other than the name in common with the cars that established the performance heritage of the marque.

Designs like this are symptoms, not the problem.
The stinger drives better than a modern m-car? The stinger isn't meant to compete with the m3/4. It has more in common with the 3 series or 4gc. I think it's slightly larger than the 3/4er.
You miss the point:

BMW has devolved so far from it's reputation as the indisputable champ of sport sedans such that it's fair to compare today with Kia.

The appeal of the brand pre-F series was performance and quality. The unanimous perception was that this brand defined sporting performance in a practical, four-seat package.

Today? Different brand identity for a different buyer.

Definitely the Concept. Production headlights are significantly thicker, as can be seen on the prototypes. It's been (disappointingly so) the same with the concept 8 to production 8 transition.

Keep going, another 15-25% reduction and you'll have something which doesn't look like it's been designed by an April 1st prankster

The head designer of the 4er Concept did a video on instagram, and was talking about concept vs production and mentioned the 4er in coupe, gran coupe, and i4 form are all based off the iVisionDynamics concept
What's his Instagram?

Hilarious how some say Z4 look like a frog then turn around and talk about the Kia Stinger like it's any better looking. Seen lots of the Stinger's in the twin cities area and I think they look like any other generic cheaply made Kia. That is all

I have owned my F32 for two years now. Every time I park it as I walk away and look back at it I say to myself “that’s a nice looking car”. Looking back at the new 4 series would just make me nauseous.

It was on BMW's corporate instagram. Now under the IGTV section, here's a link that should work https://www.instagram.com/tv/B2PLIlY...=1mfgj7lp36ayt

"The concept 4 has exhaust pipes, as the concept 4 is the combustion version of the iVisionDynamics concept" - Lead Designer (around the 3:35 mark in the video)
