Everything good except....ready for it.....the front grill.
The iconic design must remain in some "shape" or "form" . The is not it....

Excellent effort to envision the likely future. Will undoubtedly trigger early polarizing comments.

Your work is really good! I think you've pretty much nailed the GC and M3/4

Unfortunately, it looks like the GC is going to look more like a GT than GC.

And to people talking about the headlights, it looks like the they are going to be quite large in the spyshots, but hopefully it's just extra bulky camouflage...

I initially had the same question. I believe GC buyers seek a sexier design (and perhaps more utility) that would greatly distinguish them from the 3 series sedans. Take the sedan 340i even with MPPSK, besides the wheels and exhaust tips, it barely looks apart from a the lowest trim 320i.

To answer your question, yes, it might eat into the sales of the 3 series sedans. However, BMW would much prefer this scenario over losing that customer to Audi that offers the A5 Sportback.

So essentially it comes down to offering more products for the consumer to choose from.

What's interesting seeing this is that it looks much better in a 4-door than a 2-door, at least IMHO. It seems they were going for the "4-door coupe" styling as the primary market, rather than designing a 2-door and then adding doors a la current 4 gran coupe. Kind of like how the A5 sportback now looks quite good, while the A5 just looks decent. 8 series is same story. That's where the market seems to be headed. Sad for the proper coupe lovers.

Exactly, so what is the point of a rendering?
The original poster was trying to do the community a favor and give us a rough idea of what it may look like based on spy shots. Take everything you see with a grain of salt. Certain parts of the car may look somewhat similar when it's released.

That's a great way of saying it.

People are way to serious right now.

Ok need another post:

- Hideous front grill with odd proportion that is going to be killed in some states due to mandatory front license plate
- Hood separation line circa F30 which makes it look even uglier in lighter colors
- Extremely huge looking air vents with fog light placement
- characterless sloping and narrow tail lights thats NEVER been BMW design language, look at any vehicle they make, this just reminds me of those HYUNDAI elantras and sonatas, yuck

We are seeing the after effect of design leadership change @ BMW

Bring Chris Bangle back OR just give the new guy Calvin Luk a new project for these cars!

I actually think it looks pretty stunning on the rear 3/4 views. Looks like a classy modern BMW.

The front bumper/grille/lights however, ruin the whole car. Really terrible design

Thank you! I couldn't figure out what car it was the rear reminded me of, lol.

Also, the front kinda reminds me of a more modern or M version of this Hyundai.

Yeah looks 0% like a BMW.

This is why nobody is buying the 8-series either. These cars have no personality!! Not sure what BMW is doing with design anymore...

People are not buying the 8 series bc there is a lot of competition in that segment, and many of the buyers that once went for these high priced, gas guzzling, rocket sedans, are going for tesla model S. There's sigma with buying an eco-unfriendly car and tesla has capitalized on that. Imagine you can easily afford an 8 series for 140k, maybe you are a business owner (not all are but lets play a game), do you really want to show up to work in an 8 series, how will you be perceived? In a tesla that says no to gasoline, that's better. Enter the bmw i4, bmw's return jab.

The design of the 8 series itself is fine.
