It's a cool looking car, but, given the option, I wouln't trade mine for it. I just wouln't want to live without hvac buttons, the macro buttons or my shifter. I'm not a sunroof guy, but it is nice to be able to crack it open on a hot day to let the car ventilate when parked.

I'll say it once if you're getting your panties in a bunch over some carbon fiber roof, badge or 'M style mirrors', I'm assuming you've got some deep-rooted issues at hand. Work on the insecurity first.

There's no doubt there will be a douche who claims his m340i is an m3 but who gives a F. That guy is a minority. Most of us know what we have and are proud of it.

You just answered for me. I don't want a sunroof. If there was a sunroof delete option with a steel roof, I'd probably pass on the expense of the plastic roof. However, there's significant appeal to having both the plastic roof and no sunroof. I'd personally pay four figures for such an option.

I am considering a "full fat" M2… especially since the M340i doesn't even have a shifter. M3 just too ugly for the price.

You'd pay up to $99.99? I like the SR because of the light. I can also check out the status of some of the straps that hold my kayak on the roof rack.

That toggle replacement for the current gear selector seems lame.

I have an M3 on order which might show up before the end of time but, like you, might move to the upcoming M2... hoping it has a sun roof option. Wish the M3 order was locked and loaded.

The badge on my M340 came from the factory AND THE M DIVISION HAD SOME INPUT! it’s more than aesthetics! Prior to this I had an F82, and following this I’ll probably get another M or finally make the move to a 911.

Completely honest question here (and from a previous M340i owner), but I always heard the "M division had some input" argument from many owners (myself, I could not have cared less). Is there anything pointing to what the M Division did to the M340i? Other than journalists just stating the same thing.

Well a few have said themselves they want to feel exclusive for paying a premium which sounds to me like they mainly buy M cars for status. It's not like an M340 is some cheap car to begin with. The fact BMW is the one making the car these insecure few really should go picket out side BMW HQ. It's weird

Nah, none of those, they're not special enough. Real OG M3 are as follows:
E30 M3 Evo or E46 M3 GTR/CSL... IMHO. I lol at the F8X guys chastising the G80X guys about how more special their cars were ( utter BS!).

I currently have an M Performance BMW and a G82 xDrive. I don't even have a carbon fibre roof on my M4. The difference between them is night and day. However, why BMW would out a carbon fibre roof on a non-M car is beyond me. And the M mirrors. Why ? It just dilutes the M brand and will ultimately come back to bite them. Just like M mirrors on an i4 ? They'll be putting carbon roofs and M mirrors on a 320 soon. Then listen to the m340 owners having the same whinge.

I didn’t whine when I had an F82, and I still don’t care while owning a G20.
Why can’t a 320 owner have a carbon fibre roof??
How does that directly impact you as a G82 owner?

If I want to get a carbon fiber roof on my new daily driver only because I think it’s aesthetically pleasing, I will, because BMW has crunched the numbers and it makes sense for them to offer that as an option on a car I’m interested in. Personally I’m going with a sunroof, but that’s not the point.

If someone wants to mod a G20 with a fake carbon fiber wrap on the entire car, and cheap aftermarket M parts, who cares? Just laugh and move on. ✌🏼

Those (authentic) aftermarket M bits are not cheap!

At this point I spent enough for a down payment on an M! Seriously, I hesitated on an X4M and now inventory is low again!! So , until the market stabilizes I'm making the best of it with the M340… tastefully!!
