I look at the pictures of this thing with this gaping set of nostrils and it immediately brings to mind a cockroach that I just want to smash over and over until it is completely lifeless.

The gaping holes in the front of this monstrosity also made me think of this emoji:

😱😱

I added more colors on my Instagram (@silberi8) including my attempt at something brown and one in the violet/purple range. I’ll post them here when I get home as I can’t seem figure out how to upload them from mobile.

If there’s a specific color anyone wants, let me know. The only one I’ve tried that hasn’t looked right was white.

If this is what the new M4 (and probably M3) is going to look like, looks like BMW has solidified my decision to keep driving my E90 indefinitely.

I honestly have no problem with the grills, we've seen it coming for months now so I've gotten used to that part. For me it's the weird design in the bumper that's throwing me off...that part just doesn't seem to flow. I'll give BMW the benefit of the doubt because they didn't let me down with the M340i. Especially when everyone at first was calling it ugly. Let's see what happens 🤷🏾*♂️🤷🏾*♂️

Oof. So ugly. And the ACC sensor off to one side in the grille is just icing on the (shit) cake...

If I had $1 for every time a BMW owner said I'm going to Porsche, I'd be driving a Porsche.

If A) you had the money or B) wanted one bad enough, you'd already have one.

I‘m absolutly speechless about this monstrosity. Why BMW . After a M3 E93 and M4 F83 I can‘t imagine to get one of these ugly face cars.
A bolt statement is one thing but this is crap out of hell. Worst part for me is the american musle-hood :lol.

Think BMW are the luddites. Behind in EV, behind in digital display, behind in autonomous driving, but, hey, ahead on big grille design.

So much bumper material on the lower sides, I liked it more when that was a big open cooling space that meant business. This doesn't look to have enough cooling to last a day at the track. I'm lost and confused ...
I am not an engineer (and no I don't play one on TV) but I believe part of the reason for the large grill is cooling. The larger surface area allowing more air flow. The M440 will have performance numbers about the same as the M340, which is a great thing! Will some people overlook the large grill due to the performance? I think YES

PS I love that color and the black grill and wheels. The color combo can make the grill look better

If there isn‘t a last minute decision against it because of the upcoming shitstorm we have to accept that the M3 will share this „grill“ .

Why put horizontal slats to make that montronsity of the kidney grille look small. How about making the kidney grill small in the first place.

I don't recall where I saw the info, but the Bimmer Life article about the 4-series debut mentions dimensional differences between 3- and 4-series G-platform cars, so sharing of front/rear fascia is doubtful.

I can't imagine how much air is needed for the AWD CS version. It will be silly.
The grills are a facade that is not representative of the actual shape and size of the air passage ways through to the engine compartment.

Please refer to the last photo in the OP which clearly shows that the grill is divided into upper and lower halves by a crossbar. Once you go beneath the stretched kidneys which are only skin-deep, there's nothing here that is vastly different from any other modern BMW bumper design.

Incidentally, this is also going to make aftermarket modifications that change the shape of the grill relatively simple. Once we start seeing photoshops or what is possible in that regard, you will see a lot of folks back away from the "I'll never buy this car!" mantra. Using the picture below, you can easily envision different ways to tackle the problem. A quick and dirty fix would be some body color wrap on the cross bar and the grill slats that cover it and black wrap on the three uprights in lower air damn. Some composite inserts from IND that achieve the same thing would provide a more permanent fix. And of course a compete bumper replacement would be a more involved but perhaps most eye-pleasing and effective remedy.

I thought so too, but remember that the G20 3-series was just introduced, and until LCI time, it's doubtful they'll change all the body sheetmetal to align with this new 4-series line. There are significant dimensional differences between the G20 and G22 cars. Makes more sense that the G80 will follow the current G20 3-series 330i and M340i design.
