For the same design we have vw group. Almost change head and taillights and you have a new model...
Boring design. In 2 years we will see aftermarket grilles to match this design in the previous models BMW took high risk but I think in the end it will worth it. |

What BMW got right here is the G22's greater differentiation from the 3-series. The coupe is a niche segment, more emotional and less practical, so it is the one place where BMW can take risks in its lineup. I can see this generation appealing to prospective C-class coupe buyers more than another 2-door sedan design, especially since it looks like a shrunken 8-series from many angles.
On the other hand, I really wanted a new M440i Gran Coupe to replace my 540i and I just can't with that front end! |

I think that body line in the lower fenders is very Lexus, a line that makes no sense, that and the large rear overhang are my only gripe. Otherwise its growing on me.

Where is 2002 in that lineup? Everything started with 2002 and evolved to 3 series.
I had a 2002 when I was in college and later in life I got a e46 and then e92 m3, lots of subtle similarities. |

It is taking the 4 in the direction of Muscle Car+More aggressive coupe. Along the lines of Aston, Mustang, and so forth. The more I think about it, the more I like it. It is not something BMW has really done before. To those crying the outgoing past models, no need to worry, they still exist and can be purchased... even new, for quite a while longer.

Hard to deny, this is probably the most Muscle-Car looking BMW in modern history. Not a lot of flowy lines, and I actually think that is intentional. I kinda like it, a bold and masculine design.

The gigantic grille trend was started by Audi back in 2007 with their trapezoidal Singleframe grille. Lexus' large Spindle grille started around 2012. Mercedes went with the large Panamericana grille a couple of years ago. There are others. BMW hasn't provided a "different take," they are following an old and tired trend. So old in fact that, Audi head exterior designer Andreas Mindt recently said they will soon scrap the "big mouth" Singleframe grille, with new ideas like... "Maybe the border between grille and no grille will meld together—the frame is not like a border anymore. Just think about what you can do in the future to make it meld together." The BMW large kidney grille doesn't meld together, it stands out like a sore thumb. And as others have already said, the rest of the car seems to follow Asian car design cues. I'm not seeing the creative approach you speak of, BMW is just following. |

Don’t know where you see these “tons” but feel free to post them here so we can believe you. In the meantime, please do the reading and see the overwhelming negative impact. So far all my friends in Europe and my family laugh pretty hard at this japanese BMW. And while I am European, my taste is WAAAY to far from yours, so do not include others in your terrible taste. When one tells you that your nose is terrible you can doubt that; when multiple people tells you the same thing, stop being an ignorant and get a nose job. |

I don't have an issue with the grille shape evolving (there's plenty of historical evidence to show this has always been the case), but it just doesn't integrate with the overall design. It's like it's been added as an afterthought. Plus it's edges are too angular.
The bumper is too weak under the grille (giving the buck-toothed/Bugs Bunny look) and the 'mouth' around it- what's that all about? And whoever decided to mess-up the hoffmeister kink to reflect Audi A5/old GM coupes (Chevy Monte Carlo???) from back in the day, needs to be shot. |
