As long as it's not totally fugly .... there are fast cars that aren't gross looking. I'm hoping you're right though bc I am getting the itch for a new car soooon.

Couldn't give a shit about that if it isn't engaging to drive around corners.

Same reason I'm not interested in a Tesla.

I want a car that requires driver skill to go quickly, and not a car where you put it in 'ludicrous drift mode' and floor the gas.

My guess is that only the MT - RWD version will satisfy that criteria since I suspect the AWD version will be what you fear. A car with very easily accessible wicked speed.

After owning three BMWs and one M3, I wasn't ready to leave the brand just for the grill.

So, I just traded in my lightly optioned 2016 M3 for a fully loaded 2020 M4. BMW did a limited run of Individual colors, and I got one in Nardo Gray.

You really think the new M3 will be less than 3 seconds to 60 mph? Maybe 3.3 seconds but not less than 3 seconds.

I'm with you. I'd be shocked if, even with rollout, it hits 3.0-3.3 even. Although anything much below 4.0 would be plenty and faster is better .... my guess is 3.5 with rollout.

Rated will not be. However, if the X3M with the s58 & tune can run 2.95, the m3/4 should be able to match or beat that.

I'm pretty confident it'll do sub 3 second in optimal conditions

My biggest question is whether they'll allow the automatic with RWD. I have subzero interest in 0-60 times and the extra weight of the AWD

It seeeeeems like they're only allowing manual and pure RWD to exist together and there will be no manual/AWD and no auto/RWD. Which is annoying tbh although auto RWD seems like it'd be easier to offer and it's been a while since I've read all the news ... errr rumors.

Personally, I'd want the manual/AWD option for inclement weather usage and also track fun ... I'm 220lbs so can't complain about weight savings but always have the most fun in a good ol' stick shift.....

For auto/RWD, it could be an option if they go the same route as the M5, which has it as a mode.

At the risk of sounding like a complete noob, what's wrong with the G8x? 'Disgusted' is a heavy word....

There's nothing wrong with it to me. This poll was created for those that hate and/or are disgusted with the design (....those words pulled directly from statements made on the forum).

The vertical kidney grills are a very controversial design element here on bimmerpost. Change isn't always very easy, and this will be a big change in design. Some will like it, some will hate it, on others it may grow, I guess we'll see when they go on sale.

- Massive horrible looking vertical kidneys that not even a mother could love

- Auto "slushbox" transmission instead of DCT which will lack any character even if it's "fast"

- AWD which adds weight and will kill lap times but help 0-60 which only matters to traffic light heros and "bros" who never go to an actual track

I tried to phrase this like those who are upset about the things. In actuality, I'm still on the fence... the grilles bother me the most. The DCT was boring compared to a manual already and the AWD will make the car much more useable in nasty weather, plus have a RWD option. It'll be heavy but hopefully it can still "drive small" like the M5 and new AMG monsters supposedly do. I'm also annoyed I can't have a manual with the AWD bc that would be the ideal setup for me and my family .. oh well. No perfect cars out there and I just had to pass on a GT4 allocation so I'm bummed about that ... annnnyways. Still waiting on some real news/teases about the G80, feels like it's been forever!

The grilles don't bother me. The transmission really does. I personally find the current DCT more engaging than recent BMW manual transmissions, and wouldn't want to go back to a 6MT, but I find the new 8-speed autos frustrating and unpleasant with zero driver engagement.

I am currently desperately looking to change my car, but agree there are no good 4-seat options out there right now.

I also agree 100% that the lack of news on the G80 is getting way past annoying. If I have to read another posting on the "Preview" thread about Honda civics, Lexus's, front license plates, the stupendously ugly 'Garmisch Concept car', another bad photoshop job, or those fugly grilles then I will probably gnaw off my own foot. For the love of God, BMW, throw me a bone!

Yep, not sure why the M3 now has to wait for the M4/4series to come out first. I get that it might have been because the M3 was always a coupe first (then the sedan came but skipped some generations) but BMW through that logic out of the window when they created the 4 series and changed the numbers, so, just show us the damn M3 already or leak out something of great detail, then later on reveal the 4er and M4.

I'm in the same boat. Looking for a change after almost 5 years with the F80 (which I really love) and there is nothing really appealing among the 4-seat options. Hell, I'm even cross shopping the 8er Gran Coupe, M5, X5 or X3M, pretty different cars, but I like them all in their own way (maybe it's time for a bit more comfort, more space, higher quality materials in the interior, some nice luxury options which you can't have in the 3/4 series... ). However, the new M3/4 is definitely still a hot contender for my next car, but I'm not sure if I want to wait so long (and still uncertain about the design, though).

How can you be disgusted regarding a car that has yet to be revealed and for which we have limited information?

That's what most reasonable people have been asking all along.

After six years in the E90 M3 and three in the F80 My next car is likely a G80. I already know the mechanical aspects will be awesome (I think for me anyway)....but If it's really not what I want from an aesthetics standpoint: Giulia quadrifoglio or X3 M

Nailed it.

The DCT is so much fun, I will miss it.

I could roll with 6MT this time around but in my climate, I would prefer to have AWD even tho I always use winters regardless of drivetrain.

Honestly, the new 718 GTS 4.0 models are a shit hot alternative if you can live with a two seater. Pretty banging car for the money and comes loaded w many goods as standards ... just read about em over the weekend.
