Typical dealership bullshit. They gave me the same reasoning. Im fed up with it.

The 'I'll never buy another car from you again' and the words 'class action lawsuit' tend to make ears perk up.

I feel fortunate that Autobahn in Ft Worth is a dealer who's always kind, classy and wanting to help.

I can't say the same about BMW Dallas.

Some of you guys are too nice and are making the mistake of asking instead of telling them.

Contact the sales manager to let them know, make the appointment and inform them that you will sit there until it's done.

Maybe it's because the dealership can't bill BMWUSA corporate for this service, so they have no incentive to take your vehicle in.

This.

Always tell them. Never ask.

I walked away from BMW of Dallas after they tried to tell me their expensive injector cleaning snake oil was "BMW recommended maintenance" the first time I went in for an oil change. They weren't even apologetic when I called them on it. And they still periodically call to find out why I returned my lease at a different dealership.

I'm amazed BMW lets them keep the badge.

My old dealership tried to push tire rotation and wheel alignment on me at my first oil change...tried to pressure me by saying it’s recommended maintenance by BMW every 10k miles and BMW will check all maintenance records at the end of the lease. I just politely declined but I’m sure plenty of other people out there will succumb to the pressure.

I'm surprised you had a hard time at BMW of Dallas. They updated mine and even showed me the TSB associated with it because there's known issues with iDrive 7 builds before 11/2019. Having said that, I hate their sales department and am glad to have bought from Sewell. But I digress...

Yes, mine does that too after upgrading to 11/2019 last year!

My car is at the dealer as we speak getting several things taken care of. I just got a text from my service advisor that his foreman told him the car had been updated to "4.2020.23". Seems odd to me, has anyone heard of a 4.xx.xx release? I'm assuming typo. I'll confirm in a couple of days when I pick it up.

Hmm... interesting. Could just be them not knowing what they are talking about...

I'm putting the odds at 50% no update is done, 40% you get 3/2020 and 10% actually getting 4/2020.23

Keep us updated once you get your car back!

Haha. I would definitely have agreed with you about the 50%, except that this dealership has already pulled that crap with me once, promptly resulting in me b!tching out the service manager in front of a service bay full of customers (lying about the software update was only one of multiple reasons). I now have an email trail a mile long detailing his department's multiple failures, and I've made him well aware of my intention to go straight to his ownership as my next step toward resolution if things aren't 100% when I pick it up. So the software definitely going to be updated, just a question of what rev#. I'm putting my money on 3/2020.

Got the car back today finally. 03.2020.31 is the flavor. Spotify is present, so that's a win.

Do you still have the pops and burbles like you did when you first bought the car?

It's been concluded that this isn't impacted by an iDrive update, but rather by an emissions update that happens at a much lower level than iDrive software in the G20. It seems to be impacting only Canada or some European country models, but not USA.

Just wondering....I’ve been having a lot of BMW Connected app issues. Specifically the car won’t unlock/lock,remote 3D view. My 2020 330i is on software 07/2019.39.
BMW Assist said it could be my software in the vehicle that is causing the problem as there is a newer version.
I took the vehicle into the dealer and asked them to update the software as per BMW assist.
I was told that there is no new software updates for my car and after having the vehicle for 2 days, they only did a factory reset....It still does not connect. Any ideas on how to get them to update the software? Not sure why this is so hard - this is in Canada btw.

First off, the software is definitely your problem. 07.2019.XX is an old software with many known bugs. 11.2019.XX fixed many problems, including Connected Drive connectivity and CarPlay connectivity. Secondly, your experience is sadly common. Many BMW dealerships will do or say whatever it takes to avoid updating your software. It happened to me this year. My advice is to find the email address of the Service Manager, and email him the following:

1) His staff lied to you. They told you there was no newer software available, and you know for a fact there are two major releases that are both far newer than your current version: a 11.2019 release and a 03.2020 release

2) You also know from online resources that the 11.2019 update specifically addresses the types of Connected Drive problems you are having (you might as well say you are having sporadic CarPlay disconnects as well for extra reinforcement). Which means they ignored your issues and the available fix completely, and have essentially refused to fix your vehicle.

3) If your software is not updated the next time you pickup the car, you're going to have a very candid conversation with (insert name of owner or general manager of dealership that you got off their website) about how his staff is not only refusing to fix your issues, but that they're also lying to you about it.

4) Based on his response, make another appt and ask to speak with him directly when you drop the car off to make sure he knows you're not going to let them jerk you around again.

Pretty sure that will take care of it. If not, you now have a paper trail you can forward to the ownership. Either way, you may want to find another dealer...but nothing says you won't have to jump through the same ridiculous hoops there too.

This is good advice. I'd even suggest just going to a different dealership too?

Thanks! I appreciate the advice.
I sent them an email mentioning that they did not do what I asked. I received a further email saying the car is up to date. Not sure why they are saying that when the car is clearly on 2019 software.
So I basically emailed
them what you mentioned and included the manager. Hoping to hear back soon else I will be trying a different dealer. Really disappointing to have such difficulty with a software update that we should be able to do on our own!

Members in german forums report that RSUs now seem to be happening over-the-air in larger amounts, so maybe BMW is done testing or fixing their infrastructure or whatever it was that held it up, we'll see.
