When I ordered my 2018 340i Msport (November 2017). I was told production for the 340i Msport was moved to South Africa for the 2018 Model year. But only for the 340i. That was one reason why there was no more individual colors and I couldn't get the Tanzanite Blue. The car arrived Stateside April but because I wanted a PCD I had to wait until May to pick it up.

On a side note took it in for service today. The new X7 was in the Service bay for dealership training, it had no badges anywhere on it. A few new X5 and and a 8 series on the show room floor

You can do ED on new models.

US 320i was a blip in the planning in mid-2016, right when I wrote that post. They quickly changed their minds about bringing it here.

Doesn't mean it'll never show up, but right now the chances of it look pretty low.

I definitely want a new G20, but I'm waiting for to order a M340xi.

So I guess that means it will still be produced in Germany, which is cool, because I think I'd like to do ED with it.

The question I would have is.. can I order it with the M performance parts that I want on it?

Yep, just look at your VIN. I asked my dealer and he said the car was produced in Munich, I wanted the shorter lead-time. He was correct, the VIN has a production plant code of K which represents Munich. It's the idea of it being built in Germany...I loved my USA X5's, never had a problem with any of them.

Also, regardless of where the car is made....you will still be able to do the American Performance Delivery. I did this for my first F30, and it was a fantastic experience. Sure, the museum isn't much to write home about, but the track time and factory tour were amazing. Well worth the investment in time.

Why do you think there would be a markup? It's a new model but not limited in any sense

The M cars are made in Germany because that's where the M division is and they have their own development and build cycle separate from BMW. The M Sports are BMWs with M Performance accessories, they have little to do with the M division besides the fact that M was involved in the design of the accessories. My old 340i M Sport, for example, was an South Africa 3 series. So while it might be true that the upcoming M340i might all be German made, it's is not true for the F30 M Sport.

Not entirely true. The ///M cars are built on the same production line as "ordinary" cars. X5 M and X6M are built in the USA.

You are right, they are on the same production line, but I said they have their own development and build cycle. They are totally different cars than the F30 M Sports and M340i and are developed by a separate division. I didn't know that about the X5M and X6M, thank for the info! I was mainly referring to the M3, M4.

The only way to order one that way (during the delayed availability period) is if the dealership is willing to take a unit out of their own allocation and put it into the European Delivery program.

Not saying it can't be done, but good luck with that on a brand new 3 Series design.

Yes.
And that works especially well when buying a 4 Series priced near an M550i.
European Delivery is a great experience, but the discount is a such a sweetener.
I can remember a time when European Delivery for M cars was a BMWNA taboo.
Surprised they still allow it these days....

I know, I've owned a few true M's, very different beasts, I was saying my wife's F30 m sport was a German built car based on the VIN and K code production.
