Then again, Tom Cruise did not say, "M cars, There is no substitute."

Depends on what purpose the vehicle will have.

The only Porsche that interests me is a GT3RS as a weekend toy.

In the meantime, I'll take my M6 over any other GT in the Porsche stable.

Clearly i agree, but below are the events that lead my father (die-hard 911 fan & owner) to swear off any unjust love he harbored for 911s.

My dad and i were at the 24hrs of Daytona and the BMW booth had an M6. He laughed, out loud no less at the price of the M6 and asked me, while i was 2 cars away from him, who in their right mind would pay that much for am M6.

When we were at dinner that night, i asked why he thought it was over priced. He said there was nothing special about it. People would think it was a 5 series or 3 series. No one would know that it was special. At the time, he also owned a GTS4. So i asked him if he thought anyone on the road would know that he paid $125k for his Porsche rather than $80 for a base 911? (at this point my dad had only had the 911 for about 8 months and was still in nostalgia heaven as he hadn't owned a 911 for about 15 years) He thought about my question for a minute and sheepishly said no. I explained that the M6 was 10x the daily driver the 911 is and that some people want a nice car, with 4 seats and a trunk that will out run most 911s. You could see the wheels turning in his head and he half heartedly agreed; but he was still the typically 911 owner.

Then about 1 month later i left my E92 M3 at his house because i was using his Audi to make a trip to miami. He drove that M3 for the first time that day. When i got back he had talked to me about how the M3 was all those things i listed in my first post in this thread. 2 months later he sold the 911 and told lost all faith in Porsche. He said that driving the M3 on the same roads he had been driving the 911 on really opened his eyes. Now when he goes to PCA events, he does so to troll the 911 owners. lol Which is pretty funny. Almost as funny as when i remind him that HE was one of those guys a few years ago.

Very different cars for very different purposes. Few would compare an M6 with a Porsche 911 GT anything. One is a super fast, super comfortable, largish luxury touring car and the other is a small, light, sports car with more of a track focus.

Not saying one is "better" than the other but to say you would take the M6 over a GT3 or GTS, etc. says that your preference is more for a super fast cruiser than a small sports car. For me, it would be the other way around... I would take the 911 GT anything (or an M3/4 for that matter) over the M6. Not because the M6 isn't as good but because it isn't what I want to drive for my purpose.

Yes to an M car, no to a 911.

Trust me when I say, and I say it with absolute confidence - nothing you say will change my mind.

I don't care if there are cheaper cars.
I don't care that you own both.

Haha. I like the persistence. Most people would probably agree with you. I felt the same way before as well. Wasn't trying to discredit you. Hopefully you feel the same after driving one. You can't go wrong with either

Werd.
To each their own, but if I wanted a heavy GT car I would go with a GT-R.

This is wilful ignorance on my part, but there is nothing BMW makes that will measure up to a Porsche.

Serious question. If all you care about is the badge then why not sell your 3 and get a 987 cayman or a 996 carrera?

I'm not a badge whore, I would buy a Porsche before I ever considered a Ferrari. I would buy a GT-R over any BMW as well. I just don't really care for BMW cars and generally they don't measure up to Porsche performance.

Like I said, nothing you can tell me will convince my otherwise - objectively they are absolutely better cars, it's the subjective measures where people have their differences.

FYI, I considered a 996 and a Cayman, I'm happy with my cheap 3 series for now. I still have Porsche envy though.

I hear ya brotha. Wasn't tryin to knock you down. Everyone has different wants and needs in what they look for in a car. For the record as much as I love my bmw, I'm always looking at the horizon. For me it's either a 991 GT3 or an R8 v10. Only time will tell. Good luck on your quest to get into a P car!

I know you're being facetious...today a 4 cyl. 3 Series is over 50k, that's not cheap!

That's the typical Porsche owner these days though. It's so out of reach for so long that they worship the brand. Then when they get one, not even a lemon of a Porsche will ruin their enthusiasm for it. They'd keep that lemon POS and just chalk it up to the price of Porsche ownership.

I've been part of several conversations with small groups of Porsche owners where they were just having a straight up bitch season about the things they weren't happy with or they found annoying with their vehicles. And almost without variation, the conversation ends with, "well that's the price of owning the best sports car on earth". Those guys give real meaning to the word sheeple.

haha even though the M4 smokes a tuned 335i, I think the E92 is the one you see in the museum 50 yrs. from now.

It's like Ben Affleck's wife vs. the nanny, with the E92 being the wife. Yeah, once in a while a man goes for the sport exhaust, but in the end, he sticks with quality.
