Short version; I wish to learn what type of scan tool or software/cable is necessary to see this diagnostic issue (photo). For example, I assume standard OBD2 can’t see it. I am trying to determine if the code is time stamped to when it first occurred.
Long version if you care: Every time I start my car I get a warning message I have to accept. Eventually while driving, or often immediately following the initial warning, a second one that is very similar pops up. The car has done it since delivery. Obviously my fault for even leaving the dealership, but I drove off in a sort of hurry to just get on with my day and haphazardly clicked to accept whatever things ID8 threw up in front of me… and to be fair the messages are not very descriptive and could easily be assumed at a glance as a prompt to activate some settings somewhere. At any rate, I was at the dealer today for a service and they looked into it and said it’s due to one of my proximity sensors. Looking at it, it’s not entirely convincing that it was caused by a stone but maybe. Looks actually warped and defective to me; but you could convince me it was perhaps a stone, that hit it during it transport on a truck or something. Unless I can prove it was like this before I took delivery, they want $1200 to fix it. Of course I would never go for that, but if I can make them do it, it saves me the hassle of having to pull the bumper off. |

I would start with Bimmerlink. Paid app, but very handy. Should have the odometer reading at time of fault code.

Perhaps it's different with permanent errors, (haven't had one) but with stored and Info codes BimmerLink only shows time stamp for some codes. And those olny shows in the app when klicking on individual codes. Not in the error reports that can be sent by email etc. (I have one of the listed WiFi-ENET adapters.)

Good call, I will do it on my iPad since it wont be fighting me to connect to my car. Adapter came in just a bit ago, and ENET cable I bought a year ago for something else I never ended up using it for. So I will give this a shot in a couple hours. Thanks again.

Sadly BimmerLink cannot see these diagnostic problems. If I clear the “error memory” it clears them from my ID8 status but they come back after a few second, still invisible to BimmerLink app. So I guess I will never be able to prove it… time to order the sensor!

I did go into each of the sections. There was a handful of codes in each too, to my surprise. But none of them associated with the parking/proximity sensors/radars/whatever. I became desperate to find anything of even novelty use to me in the app since I had just paid $40 for it to see it didn’t contain my target; to no avail 😂 hopefully I’ll need it for something one day.

Just to mention that the logged fault information is rather limited when displayed by both BimmerLink and (Bimmergeeks) ProTool, or it isn't stored by the car (iDrive7 in my case).
Yesterday I got a reason to look into fault codes (related to trunk motor). For 2 fault codes I get the mileage when they first occured, but not the date. For an (information) code "tried to activate when moving" there is neither mileage or date. So unless you have a record of exact mileage at delivery it might not help your case even if you get the data. Another thought is that the shown alert is about "automatic activation". Does it mean that all parking sensors work when manually activated (or put into reverse)? (It could be interesting to check the sensor read out, but I can't find it in BimmerLinks list (Parking.. Proximity.. Distance..). I haven't check but I would think that ProTool can read them. |
