Get the guard and replacement cooler from mishimoto, don't bother with the oem one

Question: Does anyone have any idea on the part number of this rubber piece? I am visiting the dealer this week for service and can ask, but am hoping someone more wise on the G80 might be able to point me in the right direction.

Looking at ordering one. Any issues mounting with a carbon lip? Specifically the the Turner front lip.

Install is very easy. I just did it yesterday. You would use all existing holes and only need 10 mm socket for entire thing. As long as your Front lip didn’t require any additional new holes for mounting it should not be a problem.

I pulled off little rubber dam first and installed on to the new shield. I think it’s easier then trying to push it on upside down.

Here is the install video from Mishimoto:

Thanks man!! Looks great! I saw the install and it looks super easy. My understanding is turner lip doesn’t need new holes, but I think has some new hardware (longer screws) so I wonder how that would work. I need the peace of mind this cover provides. Lol

Ok I see. So if the lip is installed to those front holes in the bumper then yes u might need longer screws.

The plate comes with 7 machined threaded screws. This is because once u take off original plastic some of the OEM c clips are gone too now. So instead they give threaded screws and the plate has thread in those front holes that’s how it’s secured between front bumper. Basically plate goes above the front bumper plastic and u use threaded screw to secure bumper to the plate that has threaded hole. So if u have the lip there as well u might need longer screw.
It would be easy to take care of. You would just take screw they give to either Home Depot or some “screw store” and get exact same thread but longer screw. Probably double the length.

U want to take picture of how lip is mounted under ur car?

I don’t have the lip mounted yet. It doesn’t get here until October 3. I may order the oil cooler and look at the screw sizes and stuff, side-by-side and hopefully figure out what I need before. My PPF guy was going to install the lip for me because he was going to wrap it, but I’d like to get the oil cooler on first. But I don’t want my PPF guy to have an issue.

I think most likely your lip will mount where the 4 screws are in the front attaching to the actual bumper. I doubt I would mount any further back. So once u get your lip just see how thick it is and get 4 new bolts to account for the thickness of the lip.
Also possible that lip will just be 3M tape and no effect at all. Can you tell from where u ordered how u suppose to mount it?

I think I may be ok. It looks like there’s one screw in center everything else mounts on the outside. So I may just need one longer screw to mount with. And possible the screws that come with it may be long enough.

Oh ok. Yea the side ones for sure no impact.
That center one just have to see which one it is where it lines up. It maybe one in that second row in my pic then yea just one longer one. But also it looks pretty thin the mounting portion. Maybe not even need anything.

Random question, but what do you use for the top of your jackstands? I assume you jack up via the front middle point then jackstand under the corner points?

Yea I jack the middle jack point and I put these rubber inserts that go over the jack stand. They go inside those side jack points
Otherwise metal jack stands kind of destroy that plastic jack point (I have these old stands from my relative who is gone… don’t want to thrown them away)

Bad pictures, but got the oil cooler guard on. Had dealer install while it was at service today. Much more peace of mind now. Next comes the lip, which I hope will hide some of the bolts you can see from the guard when standing farther away.

I ordered the Mishimoto skid plate but the part the holds the screw in the back that's raised, broke off during shipping. Despite how heavy and sturdy it’s built I was concerned about the weak point which is the back are where its raised. Returned mine and got the zunsport mesh. It’s surprisingly sturdy and a breeze to install. Just need to install 4 screws and doesn’t lower the height of the car or have to move the rubber dam. Shipping was super fast from UK with mine coming in 5 days and I paid $150 for it including shipping . So far looks great !!

I assume it would fit a G82 or G83 M4 as well? Anyone have experience with this for either of those models?
Thanks

Likely but can’t guarantee that. Hoping another G82/G83 owner tests it. The good thing is Amazon would take it back if not.

Yea it’s very good product. As far as bolts visibility that’s just you knowing that they are there. Nobody else will ever think anything. And you can always get different bolts with same threads.

I’m happy to hear you’re still enjoying yours. The way they had it parked on the bay I walked out from giving the loaner car back and looked square at the front of my car and the first thing I saw was how much lower it was and the silver bolts.

But I think once my lip goes on in the next week or so, I’m not even gonna see it and the piece of mind of having it is so worth it. And like you said, no one‘s gonna notice it but me.

My advisor even said he had a guy come through with an M5 that ended up hitting his oil cooler with something and luckily made it to the dealership and all of the oil drained out on the service bay. They had to add like 7 quarts to get the car Back into the shop to get it replaced.

You would think they'd just push it. Turn it "on" but not running so the steering works and have a couple of techs push it back there.

Either way, I'm adding this to my short list of mods. Was planning on the Mishimoto, but really like the look/price of the Zunsport one too.

It was far enough from the garage from service bay so I get it.

Ya I’d for sure do it. The Zunsport looks good, and easier, but doesnt look as protective as the mishimoto. Never heard of that one, seems like a easier, less expensive option for sure!
