Enter all the "if we could get this in the US, I'd buy it!". The reason why they aren't coming here is because NO ONE is buying them.

BMW USA offered an awd, automatic 328i/330i/328d only with the F31. E91 was also only the small motor but did have a brief manual availability. Point is, the limitation of drivetrain and transmissions has a lot to do with the problem. I suspect that even though we're a small portion of buyers, the absence of a manual in the G3x will also ultimately hurt sales that they'll just chalk up to CUV's. It's not just CUV's. If a six cylinder, manual, rwd hatch/wagon had been in the BMW lineup, my last three cars would absolutely not have been a Mazda 3 hatch and two GTI's. However after the F series, it would take a pretty large change in BMW's mindset for me to come back. If wagons really didn't sell, Volvo wouldn't have four and the RS6 and possibly RS4 wouldn't be in bound. I can't explain VW possibly killing the Golf Sport Wagon and All Track, except for the fact that they're a little downmarket and priced above their immediate competition. Plus they seem to be making way for EV's in their lineup. |

1. ...they don't know it exists due to zero marketing effort and... 2. ...they don't build it/sell it, meaning selling a sport wagon/estate/touring with something other than an entry level engine in the premium U.S. market. A 335/340 variant would have sold a lot better here. If they had to just pick one for whatever reason, they should have gone with the 6 cyl. Most people don't buy a $60k 3 series because it gets good fuel economy. That may entice them, especially the diesel heads, but it's not the main reason someone buys a premium automobile. I still love our F31 for what it is, but it's not all that it should be without the 6 cyl. Quote:

Along with the X7 above.. BMW NA didn't think they needed a 4 door sedan in the 2 series lineup until Audi and Mercedes started selling CLA and A3 ... BMW also told us the Z4 didn't/wouldn't sell and that America didn't want a new Z4 but look what happened when Toyota called.. for GOD"S SAKE... BMW told us they were " surprised " at the response to the M2 (WTF!??!?! ) and had to increase production from their original goal of 10,000. There have been nearly that many sold worldwide EACH YEAR. When a manufacturer designs a new product and hits the mark then they deserve credit where it is due. The original X5 for example is such a product for BMW. However... POOR PRODUCT MANAGEMENT AND NOT UNDERSTANDING or REACTING TO THE MARKET is not a buyer issue.. that's a manufacturer issue. If a manufacturer fails to either predict the market accurately, or... makes a decision DESPITE the market... there is ABSOLUTELY room for criticism. As has been seen above... when a manufacturer gets their ARSE whipped in a product category they ignored.. they often times will reverse their prior decision by scrambling to get a product to market. in the case of BMW.. said " scramble" is a long slow process that typically means " next gen". From where I am, G31 or in general, wagons are on special indent only. In the US, bmw wagons are also not being sold. I wonder what are the target markets for such cars? Is it worth for bmw to spend a ton on money developing such cars and not sell it in a few markets, especially the US which is such a big market for them.

No, only the E63 S. The C 63 is quite nice as well.

I personally like the V90 a lot. But have I ever seen one on the road? The V60 is rare as-is. Look online to see how many V90s are available for sale. Hardly any of them out there. |

Of my close friends, three of us drive GTI's, one has an E91, one has an S4 Avant and one is an outsider and has a clapped out Honda Element. Amusingly, the E91 is the only automatic. |
