They should look under "stop sale", not recall, or your car already got the new headrest during Production. The vast majority of people waiting were already on the boat and almost to the US when it was issued.

Just received this from CarFax...

08/14/2019
Manufacturer Safety recall issued
NHTSA # 19V-600
Recall # 19V-600:323
REAR CENTER HEAD RESTRAINT
Status: Remedy Not Available

Need more information about this recall? Find an authorized BMW dealer, email CustomerRelations@bmwusa.com, or call 1-800-525-7417
LEARN MORE
Description:
This safety recall involves the foldable rear center head restraint. During production at the head restraint supplier, the head restraint interlock may not have been produced to specifications. Specifically, the interlock was not welded sufficiently to the head restraint support rod bracket. This could lead to a break of the weld under load.

A breakage of the interlock weld under load, e.g. in a rear impact, would cause the rear center head restraint to inadvertently fold down, increasing the risk of an injury for an occupant in the rear center seat.

Remedy:
The rear center head restraint will be replaced.

siegfried8d - the same message now appears on https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html .
The disturbing part is that the BMW site also says "Status: Remedy Unavailable".
Yikes

Yeah, that’s a bit confusing! At the very end of the CarFax report it says the remedy is to replace the headrest. It also mentions this at the end of the BMW report. Seems like it should be an easy fix provided the head restraint manufacturer can get the job done in a timely way, considering the several different interior colors. And then they should send them by AIR... not on the next ship leaving wherever it is that they are manufactured!! 🤣

I thought the same thing in regards to shipping (going by air). At very least the priority ones (already sold) should have been. That would have appeased those waiting as well as saved them some money.

Wouldn't all the delivered cars also have this issue?! I'm willing to sign a waiver so I can have my car while we wait for the "fix"

Not necessarily. Just a bad batch from the supplier. I am sure BMW attorneys would never allow a car to go out with a known safety defect.

I know it is frustrating but, "First World Problems" my friends.

Agree that its a "1st World Problem". However, it's not like BMW is choosing to resolve world hunger in lieu of getting the issue resolved ASAP. This is a "for profit" company and that doesn't escape me in any decision they make. I know myself, and likely many others, would simply be happy with better communication which is something very much within their control. Regardless, the wait continues...(though I'm definitely going to let my feelings be known on the customer survey).

Agreed!! Lawyers would never allow it!! And I assume BMW could be fined or sanctioned by NHTSA!!

So, that leaves us with one requisite... patience!!

I misspoke - BMW Genius told me there was not a Stop Sale on the car or any active recalls. Fingers crossed

***** UPDATE *****

I just spoke with BMW customer service. They state my vehicle is tentatively scheduled to ship to my dealer on September 12. My car arrived in Newark, NJ on August 5.

They did mention this ship to dealer date is subject to change.

I received a new estimated delivery date, September 19. I'm not thrilled with the idea of my car sitting at a port for over a month.

Good point, do we know where these cars are being stored? Are they exposed to the elements?

Vehicle storage...??

Looks like the vehicles may be stored in a large outdoor holding area. Yes, exposed to the elements! I believe this is a picture of the NJ VPC.

I'd have to assume they are parked next to a large body of salt water, uncovered, in the middle of hurricane season.

You are correct. That white tape over the hood will protect them!
