A-pillar interior damaged during window replacement
Unfortunately, my G20 was hit by a rock and had a huge crack in windshield. Insurance approved OEM glass. I guess there is no generic for this new model anyways.
I took it to a national chain autoglass store. After the replacement was done, I noticed they had torn the fabric on the A-pillar cover, probably happened when they used sharps to detach to old windshield. It is more obvious by eye than on the photo, due to the lack of contrast. They said they would order a new cover and replace it for me. I wonder whether that would require detaching the windshield again or just simply pull-off and click-on the cover? Also, is there any chance they might have messed up the airbag under the cover? Thanks!!! Terrible experience. Wish I had done it at a dealership. But the only dealership that still does this type of job is not a "registered glass shop", which is a requirement by state law if going through insurance. |

I had gotten a call on Tuesday (when I had responded to your message) saying late September, only to get a phone call this morning telling me that the windshield was in from the dealer. Not exactly sure how it went from an additional month and a half to being in, but I'll take it. I have HUD and whatever cameras, so I don't know if that complicated (I'm guessing there are a couple different part numbers for the windshield.) |

Mine doesn't have HUD. That might be why it took longer for you. |

A pillar trim replacement is easy and doesn't impact anything. One screw and a trim removal tool. Done.

Thanks. But it doesn't look like the G20 A pillar has a screw

Embarrassing that they would pass of that work as ok. But at least they are making it right. As said, A-Pillar replacement is no big deal, very easy and unintrusive.

Live it alone? Is this english?
Also, terrible advice. They totally botched the job and tore into his A-Pillar, and you are saying to leave it? No.

Pick your battles wisely my friend... Sometimes the fix could be worse than leaving it as is but carry on..

That's actually a good point. I actually dread taking my car to the dealership for my included service. When I had my 335i the dealership scratched my roof (which they did fix) and tore up my center console (which they also fixed). The only person I feel comfortable with my car is myself.

They haven't given me a resolution yet, waiting for their “manager's response" to the incidents. I actually trust dealership more. If they offer me to fix those at a random body shop, i wouldn't trust. |

Just to confirm as it was asked by the OP, no there is no airbag behind the a-pillar trim. There is only a mounting point but that is way up the pillar, roughly where the airbag badge is located on the panel. The actual airbag is behind the roof liner leading up from the a-pillar sitting on top of the window.
