Which car to replace an E90 with 6MT?

So if you were going to replace your E90 manual transmission-equipped sports sedan today, what would you get?

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

E90 M3.

I answered this because I really can’t think of another sedan with a manual I’d pick, assuming you’re looking to maintain four doors and a legitimate rear seat.

Why are you getting rid of it?

I'm not. Just may retire it soon, or maybe at 400,000.

If you want to get outside the box, I saw an ATS-V manual going for $35K with relatively low miles the other day. If you can live with the gauges, I think it's a steal...

Yeah, the dash is kind of a nightmare, but that’s the best newer car answer I can think of.

SS Sedan
Msport 340/M3
Msport 550/M5
Hellcat
E63 AMG
CTS-V sedan and wagon
ATS-V
Quattroformaggio or whatever
XE
etc...

Most of these can be had manual.

No argument that sedans are dying, you aren't going to find new 6MT sedans for the most part, sedans are just the next victim after wagons, as everyone wants an SUV and to jack the seat up as high as it will go.

Annoyingly long doors, harder to get in/out of the back, often cost more, yeah much more fun!

Love my sedans, makes for both a practical and enjoyable sports car in this space. M3 coupe isn't any more enjoyable IMO, just less practical and not as good looking.

If I WAS looking for a coupe, it wouldn't be an M3/M4.

The upcoming G80 and the Civic Type R are pretty much the only games in town. Unless you can find a leftover '19 ATSV with manual (I doubt it).

To answer the OP's question, I replaced my E90 with a F82 GTS. But I think that answer doesn't help you much

My 335 is not manual but I am going with the M240 either summer of 2020 or 21.

An F80 M3 if the E90 was a E90 M3.

Despite all the whining the soul of the cars is very similar

Absolutely agree with that. E90 and F80 are much better looking. Most BMW sedans look better than their coupes.

So to me the only option is the Genesis G70. Even Genesis pretty much limits the configuration of the car if you go with the manual transmission. Much like the Mazda 3 only offers a manual with the top level trim and only in the 5-door body, Genesis offers the manual with just a single trim level. However, Genesis sets up the car pretty much how I'd order it. No driver aids, performance exhaust, top-level stereo, LED headlights, and 19" wheel package. So it sounds like Genesis understands what a customer wants when he selects to own a manual trans. It comes at a $3K price increase over the base G70 with the 8-sp auto, but has all the correct options selected.

But it's about a decade behind in 0 - 60 time.
