Help: need seatbelt extender for backseat of G20 330i

It seems the rear seatbelt clips are different from the front ones on this car, a 2019 330i (G20) -- I have a car seat and it is insanely difficult to get it buckled in without an extender.

I ordered the ones from amazon (there's a ton of them) and they fit, but do not click/lock. The front seat belts work fine with the extenders.

Can anyone help me find a working rear seat belt extender??

Thanks!

If it's for a child, wouldn't it be much safer to get a car seat that attached to the LATCH points?

It's a booster seat, so it doesn't hook onto the latch system but uses the cars seatbelt to secure the child.

LATCH can only be used for children who weigh less than 35 lbs. More than 35 lbs you need to use the seat belt.

lol, 35 pounds would barely cover any 3 year olds. It's actually 65 pounds.

Regardless, booster seats (up to 100+ lbs) are most definitely not safe to use with buckle extenders. Basically no child seat should be used with an extender.

65 lbs weight limit is for the COMBINED weight of the carseat and the child. Since most of the convertible carseats are close to 30lbs, that puts the weight limit of the child for LATCH anchor at 35-40lbs at the most. So yes, for most kids 3 year olds and beyond need to have the car seats secured by seat belts to be safe.

Honestly I use both the latch points and the seat belt to secure the car seat.

Do some Google searching - I tried to do some research on using a belt extender because the booster seat I have is difficult for my daughter to buckle on my F30 (sounds like a problem on the G20 too).

There are some varying opinions but it definitely wasn't a 100% safe to use a belt extender with a booster seat. In particular, this FAQ ( https://childsafetylink.ca/wp-conten...ster-seat1.pdf ) seems to be from a reputable source and said it is never safe to use a belt extender with a booster seat. Some people on the forum disagreed with the FAQ - but I'm not an expert and I'm going to guess neither are they. I'd certainly prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to my children's safety, even if that means I have to crawl into the back seat to help my daughter buckle up.

Quote from the FAQ: "Can I use a seatbelt extender for a booster seat?
No, it is never safe to use a seatbelt extender with a booster seat. The extender changes the location of the buckle,
which then changes the starting point and angle of the shoulder belt, which could lead to an injury."

It's amazing what some people will justify to themselves simply for a bit of convenience. This is your child's safety we're talking about. I wouldn't risk it.

You're half right. The average weight is 15-30 lbs. So that allows up to 50 lbs for children. Conveniently you used the maximum weight for your calculation. Generally larger children use lighter child seats. The heaviest ones are for infants so weight is much less of an issue there.

Well shit. Looks like I'll be removing the extenders for my booster seat.

Makes me wonder though, when IS it safe to use the extenders?

For an obese passenger not in a child seat.

Thanks!

That really answered my question better than I could have hoped -- no seatbelt extenders for the booster seat, period.

Ah, good point. How about for an obese adult in a child booster seat?
