And "spray and pray" to me is a photography term describing a technique of shooting at a high frame rate in an attempt to capture the perfect pose or look or moment in time. I use it quite often when shooting bird-in-flight images or sports. Same basic principle, though. You end up with 100 images out of which you might process and keep 2.

This reminds me of a cab driver I met at a music festival, who said driving cab was one of the best jobs he did. I asked why and he said it was because at the end of the night, and all efforts have failed, that cab driver starts to look pretty appealing on the way home.
Dude was sub par for looks, but if it was dark and add some desperation, I could see it.

It's not always about that initial click, before the user/link/thread is deleted. There is the after effect also. Just as you're pondering now. Will you search and click later on? What percentage of people will do that?
Advertising isn't always about the initial impact and fast return.

Maybe - but if I spammed a link "cheap cars!" what are the chances that you will search later and find my actual site, rather than someone else's?

I think when advertising "viagra" you're really hoping people click your link to your site, not the millions of sites that would come up in a search.
