Wow, different sized wheels all around. That'll make things interesting for tire and wheel manufacturers alike.

My guess is that if they're keeping the 444hp motor with the 6MT for the Pure only, and the take is small, it's over for MT M3/4 after two years. This engine/tran combo will be a carryover with no investment. They can further limit sales if they uglify the pure with non adaptive LED's, simple wheels and less avail options and colors. Then blame it on the consumer for giving up on the MT :P

My F80 was lightly equipped. Stock 18" and 6-speed. With G80 I'll go with the least expensive all wheel drive available with ZMT.
I doubt there will be an AWD + manual version. The complexity of the M-AWD system and control software probably relies a lot on having control of the transmission as well.

Developing the AWD system + manual for such a tiny percentage of sales wouldn't be worth it.

Agreed. After driving my F80 close to 50k miles with a HUD, I rely on it. For a manual driver it is very helpful and is my favorite "new" car tech since power windows.

By not allowing us to add "Executive Packages" or similar "creature comforts" they will undoubtedly streamline production, but it will cost them sales.

I have been saying I wont buy another M3 if its not in a manual. It's time to put my money where my mouth is.

The S55 is up to 454hp in the CS models.

Small refinements could take the S58 to 500hp without the need for water injection. While a 48V system could show up on the S58, I would not necessarily expect an electric turbo (like Mercedes' M256) just yet.

At some point in the future, there's a chance we'll see PHEV M products as well, but not this generation.

i wont say i wont buy it.. because in all honesty who still offers a manual? audi and mercedes dont anymore.. so my thought process is that once i cant buy an M3 in a manual then i will open up my search and cross shop. i wont consider an RS or AMG at this point because i can still get my manual M3. but that C63s becomes a lot more enticing once i cant get a manual m3..

So if its starting production next year when will we see it first? Certainly by the end of year auto shows this year (LA)?

Need to figure out what I'm doing next. Love the F90 M5 but worry its just a bit too big. Love the new 992 Carreras too... but wouldn't mind spending a lot less to get a mini-M5 if the G80 steps up the performance AND luxury game.

500 HP smallish luxo cruiser is perfect for me.

Wondering if they will inform us of the details being discussed above at Frankfurt, your thoughts?

I'm in a bit of a bind. I only like to drive manual, but seeing how there are other versions that are better and more hp than the pure version it makes me feel BMW is almost pushing the base and comp for me to buy. And on top of all that the F80 I drive now has about the same HP as the G80 pure version...anybody feeling me or in the same boat mentally as me?

No RWD with the higher end M3! Hopefully the next CS remains rwd. Just needs some sticky tires.

This is a proper trend now: F95 X5M will do 21/22 as an option.

Same way you can have 60hp difference within the B48 range.

No, S58, but a different one from X3M/X4M and the other G80s.

Yeah. Many people who would have previously bought the manual will be swayed by the extra 30-50hp of the other versions, which will reduce the take rate even more this generation. If this is how the configurations actually shake out, this is the nail in the coffin for the manual M3.

If you want this to change, buying whatever manual transmission M3 is available is the only way to help. Prove that there is still a business case for a manual version . . . "Protesting" by not buying an M3 won't help, as there won't be enough defectors to make a difference. If more people defect to RS or AMG, all that does is tell them that the DCT M3 has to be better.

i am not concerned about HP, i think once the platform evolves and tuners do their thing we will be able to tune a "pure" m3 to the same output and obviously higher than the comp pack.

This assumes its the same engine of course.

another huge concern I have stems from a previous rumor that the exterior styling will differentiate the 3 models. If that is true, you could see different diffusers, bumpers, etc.

I am hoping the Pure M3 is as aggressive looking as the two "higher" models.

Pure+manual+RWD
Base+auto+xDrive
Competition+auto+xDrive

This is absolutely freaking fantastic! You guys that want real wheel drive and a stick shift can have it, I'm totally over it!

Competition xDrive with auto whatever for me 110%!!!

"Pure and base will have 18" front and 19" rear wheels; Competition will have 19"/20" as standard."

Feaking fantastic! Staggered wheels look awesome and drive way better, better handling. But honestly why are they even playing with 18" wheels anymore? They should just keep it 19"/20" standard for all models.

Looks like ALL my years of requesting this has paid off! For the guys that like it, and for us New Yorkers this one's for you/us.

For the ones that a-pose, well...
