Lets See Your Home Entertainment Setup

I currently have quite the humble setup myself, but I am interested in upgrading and would love some inspiration and ideas. Anything home audio and visual!

Thanks everyone for the comments.

As far as the TV, it's a 60" plasma. Prior to getting the 141FD, I had a 50" Pioneer 1010HD in that room. My objective with this room has always been audio performance first. The room was constructed a certain way. The front speakers were set up specifically so the tweeters and midranges all lined up at the same height vertically. Truth be told, if I were to do it again, I would have picked up another Nautilus 804 and not used the HTM1 center.

Anyways, back to the size of the TV, at the time 60" was the biggest offering from Pioneer before they left the TV business. To get anything bigger would have required a projection setup which I didn't want to deal with. I know I can a get a bigger TV now, but it would mess with the speaker setup as the screen size would encroach onto the center speaker. Also, there's nothing available today which provides a substantial improvement on my calibrated 141FD if it can even do better.

The sound coming from the system is just effortless. I don't have one complaint about the system...well, I do...but it's minor. The system just produces. The system has pretty much stayed static for a few years. No need to mess around with something which works really really well. I've only added incremental upgrades such as having the turntable system moved from my 2 channel system to the system I showed here. I added the Vincent Audio tube phono preamp last year.

The fact I can crank the system hard and not get any audible distortion...just volume speaks volumes (pun intended) for how the system is dialed in. I've had numerous guests over who are musicians just rave about the system. And I love the fact I was able to pull off one of the goals I had, to keep the room looking like a regular extension of the rest of the house even though the room was purpose built.

When I think back, it's amazing how many years has passed when this project was a lot of ideas floating in my head to actual construction to final completion. A lot of heart, blood, sweat, and tears (financially) went into this.

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a new surround processor/preamp. I've been looking at Classe. But when I think about having to go through recalibrating/tuning the new preamp along with possibly having to redial in both subs, it's enough to deter me from upgrade-itis. Plus the Classe preamp I'm looking at will bring about more tears (financially).

I just moved into a new apartment and bought a TV and soundbar, got it all mounted this past week - even took a picture to send to my dad last night, I thought it looked pretty good.

Saw thread title, got excited to share, saw ZX10's post... now I'm just gonna go cry in the corner.

No shame in what you have. As long as YOU are happy with it. I have an issue with audio where I'm very particular with how things sound. A car audio dealer I used to do business with said to one of my friends visiting the store about me...."He's one picky bastard." LOL.

The people I do have issue with are those that buy the most expensive components thinking just because they spent all that money everyone should ooh and ahhh over it. Yet they place the speakers improperly and do nothing about the room acoustics.

Find a way man. You are doing an extreme injustice to that audio system by having a 60" TV!! Very cool setup!

I'll post up some photos of my dads theater. 4k projector and just had 4 additional speakers installed in the ceiling so now he can use DOLBY ATMOS

Don't see how the 60" TV has any bearing on the audio. If movies were the primary function of the system, then I would sort of agree with you. But with multi-channel audio, vinyl, and straight PCM (CD), there's no video consideration at all.

The problem I have with a projector system is having to also worry about light control and with my setup, using an "acoustically" transparent screen and the associated EQ. My knowledge of these screens may be dated and the newer ones may be less intrusive to the audio chain. But I rather not add more processing which may or may not add artifacts into how I have the audio dialed in. I don't think any dealer would allow me to have a try and buy on this type of equipment. And I will not move the center channel speaker placement. It drives me beyond nuts when I hear the mismatch of sound with the typical LCR arrangements.

Complete and total immersion. It's cool that room serves multiple purposes for you. But if you're watching movies, you should have a bigger screen to go with that sound!!

I have a simple set up. I auditioned some speakers and equipment at a few local audio stores - there's a ton of them in San Francisco. Bought some speakers locally and some equipment online.

I built this 5.1 system about 7 years ago:

Focal 706V Front L/R, Rear L/R
Focal CC700V Center Channel
SVS SB-1000 Subwoofer
Yamaha Aventage Series RX-A700
Blue Jeans Belden speaker cables
Various Audioquest interconnect cables

Keep in mind this is for my apartment so the sound is overkill for a small living room. I have to keep it down at night so I don't bother the neighbors.

Very nice, I scanned through your build thread too.

My wife and I are in the planning phase (http://www.azchatfield.net/house/) of building our dream home and currently I have a 16' x 18' x 10' room set aside in the basement for the purpose of a home theater. I noticed that your set up is slightly larger (19 x 19 with the space behind the false wall removed). Now that you've build it and used it, do you feel that the screen size is right for the room? My current thought is a 120" screen would be about the right size for a 16 x 18 room (screen on the 16' wall, room 18' deep, no false wall in my design).

I wish I had an interest in the nitty-gritty of the AV world like that (or maybe I should be thankful that I don't from my wallet's perspective), but I've just never been very sensitive to the nuances that make one system superior to the next. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with just having limited experience there and not knowing what I don't know.

I am pleased with my screen size and if I had room, I would probably go larger. If you have room, go as large as you can and what the Projector can handle without picture sacrifice. Also, putting speakers behind the screen also work well with total immersion and aesthetics.
