Also, I might have missed this, but do you have the lasers in your car? Alex.

No, I have been trying to figure that out. Looks like there might be 75+ values in each headlight module to change. I am not sure what values to set yet. I have been reading up on F series coding to try and understand the principles behind the changes there in hopes that I can apply the same principles to the new g20 modules.

When you do it this way, dealer software updates won't affect you - your lights continue to work. All the right settings in all of the sub modules are set for you based on your vehicle order. (I did this on an F10 M5 - you could see the lights working. The lights swiveled around oncoming vehicles, and the beams split around vehicles in front.) The alternative is coding each module manually. You lose this coding if you get a software update at the dealer. For the G series, I don't know... but my guess/hope is that it would work fine. I have a G20 on order - when I get it I'll give it a try (week 4 production). Maybe we can figure a way to perform a diff of the module settings before & after the change to isolate the differences in each module. Either way, it doesn't hurt to try it. You can always set the VO back to factory settings if it doesn't work as expected. |

I completely understand the merits of FDL coding each module. But for the F30 I remember both FDL coding and changing a bunch of other stuff too to get it to mostly work. I was surprised that the solution for the G series might just be FDL coding. FDL coding is the best case scenario, it would be extremely easy to do, just remove the VO code and hit a few modules, is it really that easy for the G20?

Gotcha, I’m a little confused. I contacted r33_RGSport since you had mentioned he also coded but he told me that only the laser lights, not the adaptive leds, can be coded for anti dazzle. not sure why he would have been able to code your vehicle and not mine.

It shouldnt make a difference, though I was doing it on my X7. Check your build if it has
5AP Decoding for no-dazzle high-beam assistance that is the code that needs to be taken out to re-enable |

Again though, I'm still not sure that's the only thing you need to do. For instance, I know that the lasers in the US have been reduced to half power because of our stupid light laws. I don't know if just removing 5AP and recoding the modules will fix that.

Ok, so I went ahead and tried this. I have the lasers (exec package), I removed 5AP from the VO and module coded bdc_body3, kafas4, hu_mgu, and flm[43] and flm[44]. I initially had a failure on the flm modules because of a missing cafd file but shawnsheridan hooked me up with 4.21.20_PSdZData_Lite and I was able to code them. I drove it for about 20 miles, only on the highway last night and it was definitely working. I was actually amazed by how far the high beams can turn in relation to the car. It was slightly rainy and a little misty so I could see the beam a little, I was driving in the right lane at one point and there was a clear and defined cutoff line visible on the right lighting up the street signs, the light was coming out of the passenger headlight at almost a 45 degree angle from the car, it was very impressive. I was only on the highway and city streets with no possibility of the lasers firing for the entire journey so I was unable to verify their function but I will continue to test and report back with the results. So far I am very impressed, I don't know if it would be better with some additional coding but it seems to be working pretty good so far, again, first day with it but I'll report back with more information when I test more.

Thanks for doing the testing and letting us know. I'll try this tonight but being in NYC I won't be able to actually test it until I drive through some of the quieter parts of NJ. Did you notice any of the tunnel effects when there was a car in front of you? |

It was definitely tunneling and very actively adjusting to the road and other cars. I was following a white car at one point and didn't see any light spilling onto the car from the high beams pointed at the right side of the road. I am driving out to Dewey this weekend so I will be on a bunch of dark DE roads Friday night. I will come back and post some more reactions to it when I can.. I have no idea if I can get a video of it but i will try.

I'm noticing that the high beams come on more frequently now and I did see it move around for a bit but I haven't been able to find a dark and quiet road to fully try it out. I'll see if my dashcam can pick it up and I'll post a video. Unfortunately it doesn't seem brighter. Either another code need to be changed or it's a hardware limitation with the US spec headlights. |
