G80 M3 Release Date? Thoughts?
So a lot of people think that G80 M3 will not be released until 2022 or beyond but here is why I think it may actually come next year as 2020 model. Things are changing rapidly in today’s world and there is no reason why automotive industry should be exception to this since product cycles are getting shorter and companies are able to retool significantly faster than in the past. Also while it may be unprecedented for M sedan/coupe of different generations to be sold side by side that is certainly not the case with regular 3 series, with e46 coupe being sold along e90 sedan and e92 coupe sold along F30. Spy shots too point to 2020 being a possibility since spy shots for F80 M3 first started appearing in mid 2013 and car actually going on sale in 2014 as ‘15 model. We already saw spy shots for G80 M3 and many auto sites keep referring to it as 2020 G80 M3. Just my thoughts and observations, please do share yours.

F82 will end production in July 2020. G80 will not be available in North America before that.
Probably fall 2020 is the earliest we'll see G80 on the roads. |

Word is that it will be unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in September 2019. It's unlikely to be ready to be delivered to customers that quickly

I think looking at the F90 as an example, along with statements I have read by BMW stating they were looking to speed up the introductions of M versions, MY2020 is a very good possibility.
If BMW releases the new X3M this summer/fall, one yr after the release of the G01, we should definitely get the G80 within one yr after the release of the G20. |

For the M3, the questions are: - Will it share front end exterior parts with the G82 M4, which in turn shares exterior parts with the G22 4 Series, and will that mean it won't debut until after those vehicles do? - Will BMW wait until the prior generation M4 is off the market (F83 M4 ends production 10/20 according to current info) before introducing the next generation M3? With past generations, the answer to those questions has always been a firm "yes". However, with competition heating up, the formula may very well have changed. We've already seen the F90 M5 debut while the prior generation F06/F12 M6 is still on the market, for example. The G80 M3 may similarly arrive while the F82/F83 M4 are still in production as well. |

He wrote “F82” which is the M4, not the M3. As he stated, the M4 coupe will continue through July 2020 worldwide according to current info. However, as I noted in my post just above, contrary to what he suggests, the G80 M3 could theoretically arrive before that date.

I am in the market for an M3, but I am not sure when the next gen M3 will be out. If 2020 - a year and half I can wait. But 2022, that is 4 years away...

Also factor in BMW is going to release the Competition package for the M3 which based on the F80, people will definitely want to hold out for it. (as well as avoiding first model year glitches)
I don't see BMW releasing the G80 M3 while the M4 is still in production. It would destroy the sales of the current M4 near its EOP once news of the new one is released.

I can't imagine them releasing it prior to the M4 EOP either unless something crazy happens and they break with their past. Until we see something to the contrary, we're probably looking at SOP for the G80 in March 2021, and it will be a 2022 model here in the US. Same old 7 year cycle as before.

The real question is how long will BMW wait to release the G80 Competition model!

We talked to our local bmw sales guy and he said they think the new m3 will be introduced late next year with it going into production in mid 2020. They already have a waiting list for the new m3.

ive seen a BMW dealer bulletin in Australia that says G80 general availability - 2021... very surprising but is what the ink on the paper says...
M340i to be announced shortly will also be x-drive only...

So throw old timelines out the window, IMO. My theory, launch at Beijing Motor Show April 2019. Production July 2019 for a 2020 G80 base model. |

That would mean we are indeed on the same relative timetable as the G30/F90, two years later.
G30 debuts late 2016 as MY2017 (production starts 11/16), F90 debuts Frankfurt 2017 with availability early 2018 as MY2018.This would also mean that the G80 M3 will be on the market before the F82/F83 M4 reach EOP. |

That part is to be applauded if true, at least from the customer's point of view. So do you think the G80 SOP is in March 2020? I would hope BMW follows the same path as the M2C with US availability lined up with ROW. This would mean the G80 delivered in the USA is just a bit less than 2 years away I suppose.
