I sure hope the engine lag is solved if the intake system only is revised. I don't understand BMW moving from S55 (which has less complaint of engine lag) to X3M's S58. (F10's S63 has engine lag when not in sport.)

Because the S55 needed water injection just to make the same power as an S58 can without breaking a sweat. It's a better engine all around and don't let the fearmongers keep you up at night as nobody has road tested or driven a production G8x M car.

And the intake system is only one thing that is obvious in a glance at pictures of the engine versions. Pictures that hides 99.9% of the engines physical attributes and 100% of its software...

The guy actually misses gas pedal in one of the corners going from 3rd to 2nd gear but the car seems to rev match.. or is it just using synchro?

Well, if the mods stop deleting every post related to DCT and let us petition the bring-back of DCT or ways to accommodate development of fast sequential transmission with a 3rd pedal similar to factory race cars, we would have more fruitful discussion about this.

ABS Support. It's not a full rev match; just enough to keep the drag torque from upsetting the rear under heavy braking.

Water injection is for the GTS, not the S55 F80/82. Engine lag in a M car (read S58) is not acceptable/much worse than a lower powered car with negligible engine lag (read S55). I'm talking about relative engine lag.

Engine lag is a horror story; yes not referring to something like crank hub issue.

Engine lag? You mean turbo lag? Yes it has some but it's not nearly as bad as some people here are making it out to be. It's certainly not a horror story lol. Sounds like you should be looking at a vehicle that's diesel powered or large displacement normally aspirated.

Is the motor in the G80 mounted differently? It seems like the alternator and intake manifold (and future supercharger air duct) sit lower thus indicating less engine tilt. It may just be the angle of the pic and smaller engine cover but

X3M fares pretty good in the company of more expensive competition. Notice no complaints about turbo lag? Nothing but praise for the S58 so I would advise people to ignore the fearmongers and wait until G8x tests come in as well as your own chance to drive one for yourself.

0-60 3.3 seconds 5-60 4.7 seconds Per car and driver One way to explain that, horrible turbo lag Don't see how M3 will be different with same engine, Lower weight won't prevent the lag. Meanwhile a model 3 0-60 tested 3.5 5-60 3.7 That's before the performance increase... BMW needs to make the change and go hybrid, hate to admit it but it's the future... looks like Mercedes is doing it. |
