wraps and dips can be done well. as the guy with the SMB M2 above posted. but you have to be willing to take it to the right person and pay the price. If i ever did do a wrap i'm having the car shipped off somewhere that uses laser precut pieces and no razer is going near my paint. and it would probably cost 3-5k

i had a 'well recommended' place do the PPF on my 458 a few years ago. charged $3k. still found specs of dust and bubbles under the wrap. next time i ppf its going to be in a shop that has one of those zero dust negative pressure clean rooms.

You can't fault the wrap, it's usually the installer.

But no, I don't think this will ever die. If done correctly it does give you the ability to change the color of your car while protecting the paint underneath.

I agree with most who said plastidipping the whole car should die. Small bits like wheels etc are ok.

But who are we to gate keep.

How many owners do you think actually change the color?

A lot, and mostly car guys. Every time I go to a decent size meet, always see a few wrapped cars. Noticing now that the Tesla owners are getting into it too.

I donít think this trend will even go away. Cheap and non permanent way to change the appearance of your vehicle.

IMO, everyone who wraps their car usually goes with a different color - from what I've seen.

Would I do it, only, and I mean only if I was on a budget and did not want to properly repaint a car. We're talking about a project car that's all for fun, no my G20.

Its a slippery slope. The people i know who have committed to a full wrap, change their color every year or two.

But thatís one of the advantages of wrapping. Full paint job every 2 years is not as affordable.

I could see this being a great option for someone buying used. Canít find the color you want with the right options? Buy the car with the options you want, donít care about color, and wrap it the color you want. Done.

Yup, exactly, hence why wraps are here to stay.

Ah, then we agree. Plus there are so many more colors and finishes available from reputable manufacturers, like 3M. Way more than OEMs offer from the factory.

Do they all need to be so matte? I am hunting for a particular car but all i see is an ocean of black cars, or maybe grey, i want red, white or yellow.

This is why, lately, black is back on my radar as a paint color I'd consider. Never wanted it in the past because of the upkeep. But, with vinyl wrap and the better PlastiDip products, it isn't as critical to wrap/dip door/hood/trunk jambs if they're already painted black with black interior(my top choice). Doing the jambs adds a magnitude of difficulty and cost.

I guess that all depends if your a youtube on not lol. But seriously, I would expect maybe at most twice - very hard question to answer as no one keeps track of the data.

I'm just happy people stopped only wrapping in Satin Black or Murdered out looks.
