Last time I dropped off my M3 I had an X5 as a loaner. That vehicle definitely needs to be M sported and active dampers to the max. In standard 6 cylinder form it is pretty soft and floaty.

I mean, it's a very heavy car. 5k lbs, give or take.

You're spot on though. Without the right suspension, the stock X5 does feel mushy... Like a basic soccer mom hauler.

However, the new X5M, that's a BEAST and a lot of fun to drive.

Curious at what calibre dealers/service view the m340i.

Tried the search function, only found a thread on M5. Sorry if I missed it!

So I turned my car in for a repair. I was loaned a 2020 740i with only 64 miles on the car.

What did you think of it compared to your M340i?

Burrcold ,
Quite honestly, driving it in Sport was like driving my M340 in EcoPro -- it responded similarly to my '14 328, but felt much more roadable; it did have the M sport package and the interior was similar, though the honeycombed metallic trim wasn't to my liking

Wow sport was like EcoPro in the M340i? Eco Pro to me is so lethargic...hopefully throttle and transmission response was at least sharper when you where in sport.

I test drove one when the G20 debuted and it was impressive, quick car, of course M340I is faster. 330i is about as quick if not faster than an IS350.

If that's the case, the 330 definitely wouldn't feel like the lethargic feel of an M340i in Eco Pro.

Lol it absolutely does not feel that way. I’ve driven the M340i, 340i and 330i extensively and while the M340i is a real fast car, the 330i does not feel like the M340i in Eco pro mode. Unless the 330i was in comfort mode, in which case it might have felt that way The 330i is horrible in eco pro (kinda like driving a Toyota Corolla). The M340i isn’t as bad but again, I would never drive any BMW in eco pro because of how dull the car feels.
I recently drove an IS350 F sport and the 330i is MUCH better.

Comparing the F30 340i to the G20 330i, there isn’t as much of an obvious difference (vis-a-vis the M340i vs 330i). The 340i is only slightly faster than the 330i. All of this is my butt dyno speaking and are my thoughts. Others might feel differently and that’s understood. On a drag strip, the 340i and M340i will leave the 330i eating their dust. But on the road, it doesn’t feel as bad. The new European 2.0T 4 bangers are actually pretty decent (330i, A4, C300, Giulia) and much improved compared to their older counterparts.

Edit - Just noticed Rsnic said he drove the 330i in sport and compared that to the M340i in eco pro. I’m guessing the loaner car had some issues?

Just had my car in for almost 2 days and they gave me a 2020 X3 M40i. Forgot how nice they are but I was still happy to get back into the M340i.

BMW sold me on the M340i when I got it as a loaner late last year while my 2017 430i Gran Coupe was getting worked on at the service center/dealership.

They knew what they were doing. Now I have the M340i.

The dealership I bought my M340i xDrive from doesn't give loaners, they have enterprise loan me a rental!
I'm thinking of calling the other dealership to see what they loan but I shopped with them and didn't buy there because they didn't have the spec I wanted. Do you think they remember or care? I kinda feel bad because I went a few times and drove a few cars.
