Do you have a fuel brand or fuel preference?
Just curious and I know this is a controversial topic.
Some people swear by BP 98 others say it does not matter. I've stuck to 98 and have filled up with BP, Mobile (7-11) and Shell so far. On another note, I've noticed that I have to insert the nozzle on a angle on some pumps to stop the auto full shut off from happening. Does anyone have that issue? It seems sensitive. Hopefully its not an EVAC problem. Last edited by erawamai; 09-07-2020 at 12:29 AM.. |

I use BP Ultimate 98 octane or, sometimes, Caltex Vortex.
I’m not sure there is much difference between the brands but, psychologically, I tend to go for BP Ultimate.......not sure why I should trust BP over any other company. I tend not to Shell fuels as they are generally more expensive than all the others in the area that I live.

I use Shell 98 as I find it burns cleaner. Second choice is Bp Ultimate 98 then Caltex Vortex. I tend to stay away from other fuel brands

As you are in Brisbane you are probably getting Caltex ( Ampol now) or imported fuel . Only one refinery in Brisbane and that is Caltex , none in Sydney.
These days you never know where the fuel comes from, regardless where you buy from. I buy 98 mostly BP because it suits but I'm happy to buy from any of the Majors. I will not buy from independents because I don't feel that I can get the same remedy if for some reason I get contaminated fuel . These days contaminated fuel can do a lot of damage to a modern car . You will often hear people say this fuel is better than that fuel . Buy from one of the majors keep the receipt and you will be fine, don't worry where it comes from. |

My mechanic of long standing swears by BP. Not because of the octane but for the cleaning additives in it. I think Choice did some testing and refuted that the cleaning additives added did any better than petrol without them.
Have been very impressed with the mileage on the 330i (have disengaged stop/start) and as we have a BP refinery in WA and our local station is BP we go 98 on all our cars irrespective of the price. Also got tired a long time ago of using FuelWatch and being in queues just to save $5. |

USA, in California 91 max octane. I use Shell or Chevron. Occasionally I go to Sonoma raceway and get some race gas

Sure quite likely this time and same could be said next time with a different brand. Fuel will vary, my point was you don't know what brand you are getting just because you buy from the same servo.

We use RON (Research Octane Number) to measure octane USA uses the average between RON and MON. (Research Octane Number) Our 98 RON is about 92 in USA. |

When ever I've been to USA i found price in Cali more expensive than other states . In Fla it should be at least $1 cheaper, Texas cheaper again.
For some reason West coast has the most expensive fuel in USA, same price as Hawaii. |

Hi erawamai I fill up with BP 98 as its on the way home. But I know Shell 98 is better as many years ago I had a motorbike and I could actually feel the difference in power , more zippy when I filled up with Shell So I would do Shell but out of my way , so too lazy. I guess you can't go wrong with high octane 98 from Shell or BP I never fill up at small stations. Have not had the angle problem yet. |

The angle problem seems to have gone away or be related to a particular pump. |
