You guys are never happy, people were complaining about the hard top for years for the reasons mentioned above, now BMW is being criticised for hearing people's feedback and getting it right.
I can't imagine buying a convertible to set lap records... this isn't an M4 it's a PCH cruiser.

It's very very very very very very expensive.

Soft tops are less to maintain and cheaper to fix.

Why do people even like hard top cabs?
I've owned two S2000's. Have you ever had water leaks in a hard top vert? Not to mention wind noise at speeds over 40 mph I can't imagine at this price point anyone would find that acceptable.

Man, I like that green a HELL of a lot more than the yellowish whatever color the M4 is in that other press release.

Can promise in 6 months I will not have one of these. Also you're spot on this is literally what the forums were made for... discussion and opinions.

The F33 used the E93 roof assembly, which makes the car look extra awkward with that upright greenhouse on the wider F33 body. This is definitely an aesthetic improvement over the F33 but I still think the E93 is the car that BMW pulled out all the stops on.

The answer is:

Soft tops are hideous. It looks like an umbrella over a car. Because it is. The hard top looks like a coupe when up, looks like a car, not a stagecoach.

Looks good!

Shame about the hard top always felt like it made Bmw stand out from merc and Audi and it let you have a coupe and convertible in one - Great for British weather 😄

Making the change for Weight saving and handling is understandable though especially if heat and sound issues aren’t a prob

Can’t wait to see this in Blacked out version!

Quote:
Besides standard Launch Control the 8-speed Sport automatic transmission on the M440i and M440i xDrive Convertibles feature a brand-new Sprint function. Pulling on the left shift paddle for at least a second engages the Driving Experience Control switch's SPORT settings for the accelerator response, exhaust note and gearshift characteristics. At the same time, the transmission will drop straight into the lowest possible gear for maximum acceleration. SPORT mode displays appear in the instrument cluster and the word SPRINT flashes up
Here is a more detailed explanation:

"With the new BMW M440i G22, a new eBoost feature will also celebrate its premiere at the end of 2020: For the first time, sprint mode offers the option of more or less manually controlling the power of the 48-volt starter generator. It is of course no coincidence that the new mode is making its debut in the BMW M440i: the provisional top 4 is the first series-production BMW with a six-cylinder and 48-volt electrical system, and at the same time, after various models, it is also equipped with the four-cylinder B48 diesel the first gasoline engine with mild hybrid technology.

The 8 kW or 11 PS of the electrically driven starter generator are primarily there to fill up the already very small turbo lag of the in-line six-cylinder petrol B58. Completely new, however, is the sprint mode, which allows the additional power to be called up by manual activation: if you press the left shift paddle for a full second, you activate the sprint mode and thus ensure that the electric motor is activated the next Acceleration maneuvers definitely give everything. In a way, it's an overtake button like in motorsport, which is supposed to make overtaking easier.

You shouldn't expect miracles from an 11 hp starter generator: anyone who gives full throttle at the wheel of the BMW M440i G22 always has enough propulsion. As soon as the minimal turbo lag is bridged, the in-line six-cylinder takes over and pushes the 4 Series Coupé with its 374 hp powerfully. In connection with such a powerful gasoline engine, it is clear that the 11 hp from the 48-volt electrical system are both subjectively and objectively receding into the background.

With the second new option for manual use of mild hybrid technology, the focus is on efficiency instead of dynamics: If you press the right shift paddle in 8th gear and thus request a shift to 9th gear, you activate it in the M440i the sailing mode. At least this feature should also be available in the new BMW 420d G22, but in this case neither the date of the market launch nor the use of 48-volt technology has been officially confirmed."

Seems like a nice feature... 😁

P.S. Kill me but I really like this Sanremo Green color and THE GRILL.. 😁

Are you saying BMW should've developed a hard top for the regular 4er (430i/M440i) and a soft top for the M4?

It's missing the defined shoulder line but still looks like a BMW I guess. Would have much preferred if they'd kept the folding hard top. The large grille in cerium or chrome looks a bit too bling for my taste.

Oh please, the new soft top is nothing but cost cutting. The least they could've done is given it fins and a mini fabric hoffmeister kink like on the F12 and E64. But I guess they wanted to save a few pennies on the rear window too and decided to go with a garden variety rag top.

Looks cleaner back here contrary to the coupe 4er. The new interpretation of the Hofmeister kink wasn't going to work well on this as opposed to a 3 piece hardtop.

The designers forgot this huge grille fiasco has to also flow into a convertible style, such a joke.

Although I tend to steer clear of convertibles generally, just a personal preference in terms of driving dynamics etc., I may actually be one of the (very) few on here that actually likes this.

The new grille style has grown on me a lot, yes even the new G80/G82! I also like these new greens that BMW is bringing out across the range and combined with the Oyster interior and that matt wood effect, to my eyes this looks pretty classy (disclaimer - I do wear glasses ). I'd like to see pics of that green combined with Cognac leather interior too.

I know its each to their own and all that, but just thought I'd throw in a positive opinion for a change!

On and one last thing - going back to soft top is a 'good thing', for the various reasons that others have posted, but also you'll get a bit more boot/trunk space too
