Hey guys, I signed a lease on a car and the car right now is on a boat from Germany to NJ, US. They expect the car to arrive late this week and the port is about 5 hours from me. My dealer said I should expect the car mid May but anyone know how long the process actually takes?

Unless he's giving you a timeframe of mid-may due to Covid19 related delays, under normal circumstances you'd have your car by end of next week if it's already on the boat.

It takes about a week to cross the ocean, then 1-2 days at the port, then a day for transport from the port to the dealership, then likely another day for dealer prep.

Thank you sir. Also they'll be doing a home delivery so should i clean the car in case of corona? Very subjective question but I'm curious as to what you think haha

That just depends on what the home delivery process is like. I"ve never had that so I can't comment on it. For me personally, I'd probably just wait a few days before jumping in the car, because I feel like there's too many contact points within the car for you to have to clean all of it with disinfectant wipes. But if you can hold off jumping into it for a few days, any potential contamination would just have been killed naturally.

So I'm not sure whether this is the new normal in the time of COVID-19 but....my order was placed 01/30/20 and production was completed on 03/06/20 and then things slowed down....didn't get on a ship until 18 days later and finally got off yesterday in Charleston SC (almost a month on board)....and now they will have to truck it to Baltimore.

Originally was going to take delivery at the BMW Performance Center so that's how it got sent to SC.

This is the 6th BMW that I have ordered from the factory and all the others were delivered in roughly 8 weeks except my 2001 M5 that I had to wait 18 months for.

My car was delivered at the vpc in New Jersey on 3/30/20. I put a deposit on the car on 4/17/20. Since then I been waiting for the car to get delivered to the dealer. The car was supposed to be delivered on 5/8/20. I am still waiting for the car to be delivered, its 6 weeks already. They are telling me that they are short staff at the VPC. So the car is waiting to be worked on. They told me this 2 weeks ago. Very frustrating.
