Widest Tire for 791M Wheel?

22M340i Xdrive, I dont have a staggered setup. They are 225/40R19 Run Flats all around.

What is the widest tire I can go with? I want to change to non-run flats when I install my lowering springs. Any recommendations on summer tire?

Before the thread gets populated with "i don't have that but" posts:

I have the same wheels. Same RFTs on all 4 corners. Dealership told me they would not go over 245 on those rims. You will notice a big difference just going to a good summer traditional tire. I do not think the difference will be as dramatic between the 225 and 245 square setup.

Thanks for reply, I think I'm just going to go with 245 all around.

I'm getting stuck on the differences after the width and height of the tire. For example:

MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S - 245/40ZR19 94Y TPC ZP BSW vs MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S - 245/40ZR19/XL (98Y) XL BSW

Would either of these work or is one recommended over the other?

EDIT:
  • MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S - 245/40ZR19 94Y TPC ZP BSW
  • 94 = 1,477 lbs
  • Y = Speed rating, 186MPH
  • ZP = Zero Pressure (run flat)
  • B, BLK, BW, BSW = Blackwall or Black Sidewal
  • TPC = Tire Performance Criteria
-------------------------------
  • MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S - 245/40ZR19/XL (98Y) XL BSW
  • XL = "extra large" in terms of weight, I guess
  • 98 = Load index, 1,653 lbs per tire
  • Y = Speed rating, 186MPH
  • B, BLK, BW, BSW = Blackwall or Black Sidewal

EDIT 2:

So I should go with "MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S - 245/40ZR19/[B]XL (98Y) XL BSW"? Not looking for run flats.

XL= eXtra Load. A sturdier construction which is also reflected in the load index.

Sorry for bumping old thread, but I'm going to pull the trigger on "MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4 S - 245/40ZR19/[B]XL (98Y) XL BSW" for my 8.0 wheel.

Anyone know for sure if I will have an issue?

the technical data for this tire states wheel range 8-9.5"

i have never personally mounted 245mm tires on 8" rims (8x 25.4 = 203mm) so i can't say how it feels but it's within spec

certainly cheaper than buying 4 new wheels

Haha, I can't keep up with some people here. All my forum searches for my question have resulted in many just buying new wheels.

I like the wheels I got honestly, and 245 seems good enough for me now.

umm ...
you have x drive

all 4 tires must have the same circumference

are all 4 wheels 19x8"?

ie will you fit the 245 40 19 in all 4 corners?

That's correct, OEM right now they are all 225/40R19. I'm getting my car mounted (as I type) with all 4 245/40ZR19

i tell you what though i mounted 225 tires on 8.5" rims and my kids refused to get in the car it's so bumpy like riding on a pogo stick, didn't steer any better

i can tell you that most likely you'll have both better grip and better comfort!

PS when i wore out those 225s i mounted 245 on the 8.5, same tire brand (PS4) and i now have infinitely better grip and much better comfort ...

I think I had the worse possible combination
  • 4x Stock 225 Run Flats
  • M sport suspension
  • Stock ride height

With H&R springs & 4x 245x4019 non run flats the drive is much, much better. I never rode in a G20 with Adaptive M Suspension, but I’m happy with it now. The car doesn’t roll as much either now taking a hard turn.

I have 12.5mm spacers coming this week. I'll post some before and after. I'll go with 15mm if 12.5 isn't enough.

Couple things I did not expect with the new setup. I'm sure these are the tires, and not the lower ride height.
  • The tires now kick up loose gravel on the streets. It's actually kind of annoying. But no more wheel spin now when launching however
  • The steering is noticeably heavier now in sport plus. After ~100 miles I don't notice it much. I dont realyl drive in comfort mode much, but that still feels light.

Interesting, would you of gone with a smaller tire or still stuck with 245?

How was the ride without springs? I do not plan on lowering currently, dont want to be a snow plow in winter.

How are you liking the 245/40R19 setup? Do the tires have that bulged/ballooned look at all?I'm thinking about going this route too.

I love the setup compared to what I had. Here's how they look

Pretty sure 8.5 is only on the staggered setup from stock. I read if all are 225 you have a 8.0 wheel and 245 is the widest you can go.

It looks good! I'm surprised the sidewalls don't look like they're bulging of anything. Definitely reconsidering my plan to order the 8.5" rear wheels now lol.

330i m sport that had 225 run flats, went with:

-245/40/19 hankook Ventus s1 evo3

-15mm spacers all around

-Dinan springs

Wish I went lower there's clearance, car handles and looks the way it should have from factory.

yeah it's only a 0.5" difference which means there is a 0.25" difference on the outside tread and 0.25" on the inside. hardly anything in it. looks like my 245 40 18 (yours is 19). yes 245 is the widest you would put on an 8".

it now looks the part and will drive like it really should. can't believe they come in 225s square. madness.

your car looks stunning.
