This is a very helpful thread! I've successfully coded bronze to red and it looks great. But the ambient lighting on the B&W speaker grills are still bronze. I changed all the D7,6E,14 bytes to FF,00,00 in 360A. Can't figure out how to change the speaker lighting. Anybody successfully code this so the B&W lighting changes as well?

You mean HK grill? Someone said those grills don't have lights?

I'm referring to the Bowers & Wilkins speaker grills, which do have lights (I'm driving a G05).

Instead, change the value for bronze (D7, 6E, 14) which are bytes 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30 to red (FF, 00, 00). Then go to 360D and change byte 3 to 03 (it is originally 00 for white; 03 makes it blue and 01 changes from bronze to red since we changed it in 360A).
With that coding, you get blue where it was originally white (ONLY when you choose bronze and white; it remains white in the other options such as orange and white, green and white, blue and white etc) and red where it was originally bronze. When you choose only bronze, all the lights turn red. Basically, the photo I posted of my car in my previous post.
Hope that helps.

Very helpful and cool new look to the interior. Thanks man!

I agree. BMW should’ve done it from the factory itself!

1. Changing the actual color for the ambient lighting (White, bronze, orange, blue, green, lilac)

BDC module > Expert coding > 360A LicLciColorLibrary > LIC_LCI_COLOR_LIBRARY_DATA > G20G21G26G28G80_Lichtpaket_code1 (selected option) > Custom value

Byte 0 to byte 151 present, screenshots of which can be found here.

Original RGB hex codes are:
90,E0,90 - WHITE
D7,6E,14 - BRONZE
93,1A,01 - ORANGE
00,20FE - BLUE
10,FE,32 - GREEN
78,3C,FE - LILAC

Any of these colors can be changed. As a result, that color will be removed completely and replaced with the new color you code.
The only change I made there was to the default bronze (D7, 6E, 14) at bytes 18,19,20, 23,24,25, 28,29,30 to red (FF, 00, 00). When you click save and then code it, all 151 bytes get saved as a new unassigned value which is the new selected option. I have no bronze color in my ambient light anymore. All the other colors are present along with the newly coded red color.

2. Ambient light option in iDrive

BDC module > Expert coding > 360D LicLciColorProfiles > LIC_LCI_COLOR_PROFILES_DATA > G22G23G82G83_Lichtpaket_code1 (selected option) > Custom value

Byte 0 to byte 21 present, screenshots of which can be found here.

Original values are:
00 - white
01 - bronze
02 - orange
03 - blue
04 - green
05 - lilac

In my car, bronze has been replaced with red. So 01 becomes red instead.
Also, I've replaced bronze and white with red and blue (byte 2 left as is and byte 3 changed to 03 from 00) AND green and white with blue and red (byte 16 changed to 03 from 04 and byte 17 changed to 01 from 00). When you click save and then code it, all 21 bytes get saved as a new unassigned value which is the new selected option.
Great write up but wondering if a video was ever made?

I did make a screen recording but the problem is that when I first changed the values, the original default selected option in bimmercode change to a new unassigned value option.

As in, when it’s untouched, in 360A > LIC_LCI_COLOR_LIBRARY_DATA, the option G20G21G26G28G80_Lichtpaket_code1 is selected. When I changed the custom value there, it saved all those 151 bytes as a new unassigned value. So now, in my car, when I made the screen recording, the option selected was “Unassigned value” instead of “ G20G21G26G28G80_Lichtpaket_code1”. Thus, it isn’t accurate for those who haven’t changed the ambient light coding at all.

I’ll upload it on YouTube and post a link soon. I need to find that video first

I know what you mean. I had an unassigned when I did M layout for cluster plus m340i logo. It couldn't display that logo with m layout so ended up as unassigned. I'd still like to see the vid if possible. I haven't tried to do this yet but I'm the reading of it, I'm semi-lost on the whole hex values thing. When I think of hex values I think of web coding value but this is something else and I just really need to sit down and understand what numbers do what and what values tie to which color and so on.

The colors look great and thanks again for the write-up.

Question:
Has anyone else noticed that following the coding, the map lights don't automatically turn on? The are off (though the rest of the ambient lighting is on) when I start the car. They only come on after I go and change the colors back and forth...

Any solution?

I've also made some changes to the write up. Please look at what I've added below the video in my post to get a better idea.

Are you talking about the two tiny spot lights next to the dome lights? If so, another member also mentioned the same problem in the previous page I believe. But I do not have that issue. My map lights are the same as the idrive option change I made. And I don't need to change colors on the idrive to bring the correct color up. It starts up with the correct color. I'm not sure why it works differently for you guys.

Thanks dude. Gonna mess around with this. I don't recall if anyone answered whether the orange for AC controls and other buttons can be coded to white instead of orange during nighttime. Do you know how?

Yup. Apparently it wasn't possible. Someone posted a change that might have worked but it didn't. So yes. Looks like we're stuck with the orange and white backlights for now.

Gotcha. A little off topic but do you know of a way to code the driver side mirror to also tilt down when in reverse?

Noticed this as well, after reselecting color they came on, I wonder what happens if I code another color as well

What color is the top map light for you guys? And what option is the ambient light set (what color are the strips and what color are the footwell/door handle lights)?

My strips are blue and the footwell is red. The dome spot lights are red too. I tried changing it and when I choose the red strips and blue footwell, the spot lights change to blue. I'm guessing that's how it should work?

I don't think the driver's side can be coded to tilt down in the G series cars. I'm not a hundred percent sure though.

Don't you just flip the mirror switch button on the window driver panel to the opposite position you want? I'll check this out tomorrow.

When the switch is to the driver’s side position, the passenger side rear view mirror dips down. When it is to the passenger’s side, neither of the mirrors will dip.

Great write up VipnLJ.

I managed to get mine coded this evening using your instructions and now have the blue strips and red footwell, door handle and dome lights. Looks great.
