Can you say something about adaptive vs. standard (M-Sport) suspension? How does 330d G20 compare to F30 regarding the engine?

I am driving a 330d F30 with M-PPK and well above 300hp today so I'm a little bit worried about the 330d G20 as there will be no PPK for this one.

I have only been in G20 car's with the adaptive suspensions...

From the passenger seat(and from what my friend says from the driver's seat)... the G20 is better in every way over the F30, in the driving dynamics. I have to agree from he way the car handles from the passenger seat.

When I said driving dynamics... the new G20 feels tighter, more responsive to me, than the F30's I have been in. It seems to handle better when your in a sporty mood(or driving fast!)... but yet in comfort it goes about it's business with little fuss or fanfare.

You can really feel that the car is more sporty, taughter, responsive, more go kart like. But yet, when your just cruising... the car is very comfortable. The car is comfortable cruising at 120 kph or even up too 210 kph... it is quiet and comfortable. The car's v-max is 254 kph(for the 330d). Both the 320d and the 330d feel to me(from the pasenger seat to be quieter engines with more torque. I think Hp is almost the same as before. Maybe a few Hp more.... but it's the torque that you feel!

You know when you are in a car and the suspension is too tight... rough over bumps or over sprung... this is not the case with the new G20. It has a very good ride - that is what impressed me most about the car(s) I have been in.

The G20's still have runflats... but the tires work really well with the new suspension. No tamlining or slamming when you drive over rough roads/potholes or dips in the road surface. When I have been in the F30... even from the passenger seat... one could tell that the car(F30) had runflats. In the G20, I couldn't tell the car had runflats - I had to ask my friend.

The G20 is very, very quiet at high speeds. I think this is because of the car's incredibly low Cd & the new glass(double-pane ?) and sound deadening. I did not notice any wind noise up to 230 kph. I have been driven, up to 254 in the four test car(s).

The other thing that I really liked from the passenger seat was the new Adaptive LED lights. They really work great, in traffic(with cars in front of you and on coming cars. And they are so much brighter than a F30 with xenon headlights.

I can't show you too many pics that I have... but here are a few I can share...

Enjoy,
Dackel

Hey Dackel,

thanks a lot for your reply!

So you mean there is a noticeable difference between comfort and sport with adaptive suspension? Was missing this difference with adaptive suspension at F30 so I went with standard M-suspension.

Do you mean just the adaptive lights or the laser ones?

Not too sure about the M340d coming to the market.

Not even announced yet and I will have to order my new car very soon. Regarding the G20 this means, I will have to order blind without having a chance to test drive.

No Problem.

Yes.

And the shock valving is very good. Not too soft and not overly hard in sport. I was really impressed with the new suspension tuning.

Quote:

Yes, just the "normal" adaptive LED's. All the car's I've been in did not have the laser lights.

The new LED lights are really impressive. I can't wait to experience laser lights in the G20. So far I have only experienced laser lights in the i8 and the current 7er.

A M340d sounds very nice to me.

Yep. But you might ask around... I know that some select BMW dealers in Europe have had some private, by invitation only - events showing some (near)future products. ie: X3M X4M X7 M8 G20 and G20 & G21.

take care,
Dackel

It's a magnet for attaching the covering used to disguise the console when not in use.

This generation, not so much. I also doubt it drives much better than the f30.

After owning 4 consecutive generations of 3 series, I think I will sit this one out.

I think the dynamics will be better esp in the M340i
However I agree the excitement factor is lacking in this series..
at least its polarizing
just like the lexus grotesque grille even had its fans
and the alpha giulia bird face has its fans
but I dare say most are not impressed
the G series has lost its balance of sportiness-classiness
I have to say the previous design head who left for a korean maker
did a great job on the Fxx series.. this includes F80

Wrong buddy.

Karim Habib, then head of BMW design, abruptly ended his relationship with BMW in January 2017 and went onto become the head of design of Infiniti automobiles (Nissan's luxury arm) in Japan.

Outstanding and ugly designed tail lights, the ruined Hofmeister-kinck, shining plastic in the interior and mechanical steering wheel column just ruin whole car. So sad to se BMW messed up this so badly.

Pre-Sept 2018? It's a pre-production car registered for testing in the UK before September 2018. Since the car was production-ready by Oct 2018 I don't see how this is logistically a stretch.

That looks like most residential streets in Britain, the ones belonging to the general populace anyway. It's not Chelsea, sure . It could well be an employee using a car that was imported and registered for evaluation.

That registration matches the car, too. Grey two-litre BMW, registered August 2018. Not sure what the conspiracy is supposed to be

What do you mean? The sign is the same. The car is pre-production. The BMW employee can’t afford to live in Mayfair. The number plate is legit.

What conspiracy do you seek?

It's common practise for all BMW distributors globally to receive new models ahead of official introduction but keep them under lock and key for dealer and VIP customer presentations.
The cars will eventually be licensed for use once launch has taken place. As has done with the 3er shown here.
