Estimated G80 starting MSRP

The X3 M40i starts at $54,650 and the X3 M will start at $69,900, which is $15,250 more. The X3 M competition costs another $7,000 extra.

I guess it is safe to assume that the 2020 M3 (G80) will cost at least $15,250 more than the G20 M340i, which starts at $56,995. This brings the hypothetical price of the G80 to at least $72,245 and the Competition model around $79,245.

For Europe this means that the pricing for G80 will most probably be around 86 694 euro and the Competition model will set you back approximately 95 094 euro, including VAT.

This is all purely hypothetical but it seems plausible although this would mean that the new M3 would cost about $5,745 more than the current M3.

One thing to keep in mind is that the X3 M40i price you are using is for MY2019, while the X3 M and M340i prices are for MY2020. This has significance because the X3 M40i will get both the new B58B30O1 (the same engine in the M340i and North American Z4 M40i) and the updated dashboard and instrument cluster for MY2020. This could come with a small increase in its base MSRP bringing the gap between it and the X3 M down a bit.

Also, while it doesn't change the raw numbers, it is important to keep standard equipment in mind. I don't know how the X3 M40i and M340i compare in that regard, but that too could change when the X3 M40i is updated for MY2020.

That being said, ~$15k has been typical for the gap between the M3 and the highest tier 3 Series in past generations, so I would expect it to remain right around there for this generation as well.

Sound about right.
But let's wait and see BMW price release.

My guess is $69,995 (including destination & handling) -- $13k premium over M340i and extra $3,500 over the F80 M3. They'll make up an extra $2+k by marking the competition model up by $7,000 versus the current $4,750.

I guess $2250 for the M sport seats, that the old one used to have makes sense.

So we'll be seeing close to $90k for a nicely equipped Competition model and easily $100k+ for loaded individual models.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Curious to see how it plays out once BMW officially announces pricing.

looking at the X3 M post and what it says is standard , i'm starting to think the G80 what kind of a value it will be if its spec'd exactly the same and has the same price of $69,900

Based on the G20 330i options sheet... A G80 configured exactly like a basse x3m is like a 330i with track handling pack, leather, nav package, HK without premium package (HK can't be spec'd without premium on a G20 which I hate), adaptive LEDs without exec (also can't do this on g20) and well 218 extra HP and all the stuff to make that 218hp happen such as cooling / exhaust etc (which is more hp than the e90 325i had at launch, if you think about it).

So a 330i with nav, parking package (configurator won't let me not add nav without it, maybe in a real order you can but its only $900 either way), leather, msport, and track andling pack is already $52600. add $2000 for xdrive which isn't m-xdrive (this can't go with track handling pack, but the 330i and xi price difference is $2000), $875 for h&k is already $55475 + whatever adaptive LEDs by themselves would cost (i'd guess something like $1000 which is what the lighting package on the f30 used to cost ...seems reasonable) so $56475

So $12500 difference in cost for engine + exhaust + suspension + cooling + wider body / fenders etc seems pretty cheap for what you are getting

A m340xi with comparatively the same build is a base $56k one, + cooling and High performane 19" wheel package ($1500) + hk ($875) + leather ($1450) + adaptive LEDs (~$1000) = $60825 , in this case you are down 91hp, M xdrive, AND you have an ugly ass grill and exhaust for $8000 savings

I also like the idea that if an m3 pure costs even less if its decontented. Maybe $65k could happen

I'm guessing that the Pure will be the only G80 to start in the 60's. All others will have entry points in the 70's.

Pure - 68.9k
Base - 72.9k
Comp - 79.9k

Adjusted the starting MSRP based on the starting MSRP of the M340i.

G20 M340i = $54,995
G80 = G20 M340i + $15,250 = $70,245
G82 = G80 + $2,650 = $72,890
G80 (6MT) = G80 - $3,000 = $67,245
G82 (6MT) = G80 (6MT) + $2,650 = 69,890
G80 Competition Model = G80 + $7,000 = $77,245
G82 Competition Model = $79,890

In Europe with VAT taxes:
G80 = €80 780
G82 = €83 780
G80 (6MT) = €76 880
G82 (6MT) = €79 880
G80 Competition Model = €88 831
G82 Competition Model = €91 831

I will be doing these mods right away (guessing $30K additional cost):

- Full Exhaust with down pipes
- Intake
- Wheels
- KW
- Cosmetic
- Tune

That's really not too far from what the F8X models were.

I cannot believe the M340i starts at $56. WTF is going on in the world? Granted they should be going for at least $5k below MSRP, I'd hope. Still a LOT of cash for that car.

The X3 M starts at $69,900 and the X3M Comp is at $76,900. I bet the G80 will be very close to that pricing considering the X3 M40i and M340i pricing are basically identical. Maybe the M3 pure will be slightly cheaper or will be the same price or slightly higher but come with certain options standard.

I agree with this. Now that pricing for X3 M are out, we can compare pricing between X3 M40i vs M340i. Using that data, we can have an pretty good guess where the M3 will be compared to X3 M. I built a nicely equipped X3 M40i to $66k and a very similar spec M340i xDrive to $65k. I built a X3 M Compeption to $81k so a similar spec M3 Competition should be similar or slightly less.

Why not just compare the MSRP?

M340i xDrive = $56,000
X3 M40i = $54,650

So the MSRP for the X3 M40i is $1,350 less than the MSRP for the M340i. Under the assumption that the MSRP for the X3 M is going to be $69,900 we can guess that the MSRP for the M3 will be approximately $71,250. In my post from the 14th I estimated that the MSRP for the M3 would be $70,245.

I am aligned with this and a few of the other posts above that the starting MSRP for the M3 should be pretty close but slightly above X3M... i also would bet the packages and options will be laid out pretty similar with the primary options being competition, assist pro and exec (M3 will add CCB)

base price of M3 higher due to carbon roof but exec pack less expensive because of no panoramic moonroof. So an apples to apples exec + comp M3 could end up slightly cheaper than the X3M

For comparison reasons it does not make sense to include packages and this was not the intention of my post. It was about the estimated base price of the M3 not about X3 M vs M3
