Sailing/Coasting + Launch Control

Hey guys,

Has anyone successfully coded costing on their g20? I followed the steps both within the headunit and gage cluster tabs on bimmercode and everything seems correct, but it still wont coast in comfort mode. I'm a massive fan of this feature but not a fan of ECO PRO mode.

Also, I can't seem to find any of the launch control posts on here. Has anyone coded this in?

I have coded coasting but my car doesn't coast in comfort. I haven't gotten it to coast in eco pro either but I've driven in eco pro only twice. My brother in law managed to get it to coast in eco pro but he drives like a saint.

And you don't need to code LC in. It's already present in our cars. It'll activate only if you follow the steps correctly (in most cases, it's the TC button that confuses people (me included) - LC will work only if you click it; won't work if you long press it to disable DSC).

Ahh. Not sure if the 320d has LC but I'm guessing it should.

1. Engine should be warmed up (engine oil temps should be 165°F at least). For that, you'll have to drive around for a bit before you try engaging LC.
2. Car in sport/sport individual/sport plus mode.
3. Shifter in S.
4. Click TC button once (not long press it). It should show sport traction or dynamic traction or something like that on the idrive and TRACTION in yellow in the live cockpit (not DSC OFF - it won't work if DSC is off)
5. Brake pedal to the floor. Throttle pedal to the floor too (past the downshift button).
6. Launch control flag and notification should pop up in the live cockpit and HUD (if equipped). Don't hold it there for more than a few seconds since the car might start retarding timing and slowing your car down if you don't launch it soon.

Thanks... i'll give it a go and let you know if my car has it

Did you check the owners manual in the iDrive? Search for launch control there. If it's mentioned there, your car should have it. If not, it won't.

I have a 330i G20, 2020. I checked the owner’s manual, and launch control is explained there. I followed all of these steps, but am having trouble at the last point. I put the brake all the way down, and then I press the accelerator. I can feel the car bearing down, engine fighting against the brakes, and it revs, but no launch control. Maybe I’m not pressing the accelarator hard enough/past the kick down, but for launch control, should we expect the car to feel like it’s engine fighting against the brakes? I got nervous and felt I was putting too much stress on the car

Both pedals all the way down. Takes 2-3 seconds after you floor the accelerator.

But do you feel your car fighting the brakes right before launch control activates?

Yes. The car strains a bit. If it was a dual clutch transmission, it wouldn't (my A4 didn't).
Do you get the flag on your live cockpit? LC gets activated only when you floor the throttle pedal past the kickdown button.

Ahhhh. I don't blame you. But once you do it, you'll get used to it. The trick is to mash the throttle pedal. Not press it down slowly. Once you're on the brake with all your might, mash the accelerator pedal till RPMs rise to around 2800-2900 and the flag comes on. Don't wait for too long. Release brake pedal and you'll be on your way.
Always make sure you're on an empty road.

Does anybody know how it should the LC Flag look on "Live cockpit plus"?
Just as described in an earlier post, I did not see any flag even though the car went pretty fast and the same thing, I don't remember kicking it past the "kick-down" point...

LE: After you push both pedals down bellow the kickdown point, it does show the Launch Control Flag!

Yes, but that's the Live Cockpit Professional. I the Live cockpit plus which looks like the one attached.

Btw, I forgot to mention on my last post, I have a 320xd M Sport with Sport Transmission.I Heard that the ones without the sport transmission does not come with LC and has to be coded.

Ah yes. You need the sport transmission to get LC. I believe you can code it in with esys. Not with Bimmercode.

Both pedals all the way down. Takes 2-3 seconds after you floor the accelerator.
It will be instant, DO NOT wait 2-3 seconds, as this will cause unnecessary wear.
Left foot on the brake, as hard as you can, and then gas pedal PAST the kick-down, if a checked flag doesn't pop up, you did it wrong.
Only requirement for the vehicle being equipped with LC is a sport transmission, which is standard for US on G20.
Also, it can be launched in comfort, doesn't need to be sport. Make sure the shifter is to the left.

I did this coding on my 2020 bmw g20 vehicle, but it does not work in sailing comfort mode! On / off is also displayed on the screen but it doesn't work! is it correct?

As far as I know, special conditions must be met in prefer to coast on comfort mode and eco mode. My car came with default coasting on both driving modes, but I noticed that since the weather changed ( winter in coming) I see less and less sailing.

Maybe it has something to do with this...

I've check the manual and there is a full description of LC but as X32G20 i don't get the flag.

I tried being very harsh with the accelerator, by that i mean flooring it past the kick down.

Maybe a daft question but how do you know if you have Sport Transmission? i have the sport button, but i'm under the impression that this isn't anything to do with the transmission. Sorry if this is a lame question but it would be nice to clarify it.

The Sport Transmission it's the one that has flappy paddles behind the steering wheel.
