Timeline for build - how long does each stage take?

I placed an order on 4/22 for a week 21 build on an M340i (Portimao Blue on Black w/ Blue Piping). I was surprised that it went into production almost immediately, four weeks ahead of the originally scheduled build week, and then into the queue on 4/23. Given that, I was hoping it would be in the exterior assembly stage by now, but alas, it hasn't budged in a week.

Anyone have insight as to how long for each stage? Is it going to now sit in queue until week 21 since that was the original build week? Just curious...

I ordered the same color on just about the same date. My skipped from "in the paint booth" to "quality check" today. I remember my last one moving a few stages at a time too.

Let's hope that's the case for me as well. Thank you for the reassurance.

Same color we picked - Portimao Blue Metallic!

We will finalize our lease tomorrow. Good luck on your build.

I have found that build timeline to be inaccurate. There are delays in posting the status.

Do you see more dots when you scroll that production stage bar? There should be a total of 16 stages.

If exterior body assembly began today, it may lag 1-2 days behind, that means your car is in production. Expect it to complete in 3-5 days.

FYI, what you saw before was stage 150 which is "production begins" but it hasn't actually hit the factory floor yet. 150 means they are scheduling parts, etc... to build your car. At the 150 stage the car is locked and no changes can be made. This stage can be 1 week before body assembly begins.

Then, if all is good, once the build completes, it waits for transport to the port (usually by railcar). Then it waits at the port for a ship to NA. (a few days - up to 2 weeks)

Once it arrives at the VPC, if the car is Priority 1 (sold), it should get through the VPC in 3-5 days. After VPC clearance, it will be released to car carrier for trucking to dealer.

Then its up to dealer to deliver to you.

It's been a while since I've tracked production of a car. Can someone remind me how to track my cars location once it is dispatched from the factory? Also, from this point, how long do you think it'll take before I'm able to pick up at the dealership? I'm in the west coast (Cali) as I know us west coasters tend to take a little bit longer. Thanks in advance!

I figure first week of June would be the soonest I see the car. We shall see. Thank you for the info.

It seems like the best time to order a car is end of the month (especially for West Coast - 90-day lock).

For example,
If you order the car on 4/30, you can lock in the April rates and incentives.
If the car takes 2 months for delivery, it will arrive on around 6/30.
You can pick up the car on July 1.

You can then pick the best incentives from April, May, June and July!

Opposite happened with finance rate. Went from 2.9 in April to 4.55 in May. Will see when car arrives and what June's rates are. Worse case scenario refinance in 3 months elsewhere.

If your state allows, do multiple security deposits to buy down the rate.
