Powershot vs. Cybershot vs. Coolpix

Ok so my brother wants just a small point and shoot for xmas. Nothing to major. My mom told me to pick one out and get it for him because shes going to be out of the country til wednesday.

I just picked up a Nikon d5000 for myself, but the reviews on the Nikon point and shoots have been less then stellar so im not sure what to get.

So my question would be which of these is the best brand? I guess best bang for the buck. Nothing over $250-$300 because my brother isnt into photography, he just wants a camera.

Thanks

Okay when it comes to DSLR the 2 main brands are Nikon (makes coolpix) and Canon (makes powershot). Sony also makes great DSLR's but that's not what people really think of when they think of DSLR. As for the point-n-shoot, you can't go wrong with any of them. Sony makes great cameras so you could go for that. Nikon's coolpix is very good as well. I've not used Nikon before and can only base them on those that have them. I have, however, used a powershot (digital elph?) and I really like the pix. I was actually looking at a Canon powershot before ending up with a DSLR.
