e90 to f36 Petrol Models - Buying Advice Req'd Please

Hi all,

First post here. Previously owned an e36 coupe 318is, e46 330Ci and now e90 330i n52 Auto.

Looking to move from the e90 after 10+ years as we're consolidating to one car and kids are teenagers. The missus is after an SUV however I'm not feeling the high up ride. I'm thinking the F36 could work as a single car however unsure which model to go for. We live in London and do 7k miles a year, mostly local roads and A406 (for those that know it).

I love driving the 330i however the missus finds the power steering a little stiff for her liking and the kids need more legroom in the back. I've been looking at the F36 which has lighter steering and slightly more legroom for the kids. Plus the practicality of fold down seats.

I test drove the 420i however it just doesn't feel anything like the 330i and I fear I will be disappointed owning this model. So that leaves the 430i or the 440i.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on which petrol model to go for bearing in mind this will be the one and only family car.

Also any advice on what to look out for in terms of common issues and work that should have been carried out before purchasing.

Thanks in advance.

you are posting in current generation models sub-forum (G) and talking about choosing between F gen cars.

But whilist i am here and gone through 2 x baby stage and survived it with a F30 saloon... my advice is.. If i could rewind clock i would have gone for an SUV so so much easier to get kids in and out and with low ride climbing in it really does twist your body/back in a evry uncomfortable way.

If its a choice of one car does it all for family its got be an SUV! We had Skoda Karoq SUV, pefect price, spec and easy with kids

Ah yes, didn't realise I was in the wrong sub-forum, I shall post in the correct place.

Thanks you for the advice. Both mine are in their teens now - I have also survived with the e90 and a Golf. Agree an SUV would have been easier.

Why buy a shed when you can have a car?

The 440i is a six pot engine. A B58 no less. You want that. Can't comment on the rest.

That would definitely be a very good choice. It was my preference too if you want an ICE as opposed to hybrid or full electric.
