Brand new 330i RWD pulling to right on highway?
Hey all,
After owning an E90 and skipping the F30 generation, I decided to come back after test driving the G20. This has been discussed to death-It's def no E90 but it's still a great car in its own way. Sadly, this is probably as good as we're going to get moving forward with electric steering. Anyhow, I don't know if this is normal- My car pulls very slightly to the right on the highway when I hold the steering wheel straight. (regardless if i'm in the left lane or right lane) Could the alignment be off on a brand new car? Or maybe the tire pressure was set incorrectly? Or is this just a trademark of RWD BMW's? |

My 2005 E90 does this but then again it's almost 15 year old and has almost 200K on the clock. I don't expect it to be part of a new car nor did I experience this during my 320i test drive. Did you?

Check your tire pressure and have the dealer align it. I've noticed alignments are never perfect from the factory. I always insist on an alignment within 500 miles on new cars.

Corrected the tire pressure- still pulls to the right. Seems like the steering wheel is off center on a brand new car. Taking it back to the dealer on Friday for an alignment check. Should I be concerned about them messing things up further? I am reading all these horror stories about post alignment issues?

Tell them to make sure the steering wheel is centered, all alignment specs are in the middle of the range, matching left and right, and get a print out.

A car's alignment can get thrown off during transport. A buddy of mine is a longshoreman and he tells me stories of how they have to drive hundreds of cars off the ships and onto transport trailers... every now and then a car might get "jostled" during the process. I'm not saying this happened to you, i'm just saying it happens.

BMW is notoriously bad with alignments out of the factory/due transport. My regular place says you can put up any brandnew BMW on their laser alignment system and they all need tweaking.

I believe you aren't the only one, one of the hosts of the youtube channel Throttle House mentioned in their 3 Series Comparison Video, that the car had trouble tracking straight on the highway.

I took it to the dealer and the alignment was out of whack - all fixed now. Car tracks straight when wheel is on center. This may be in my head but it drives better too. Alignment report attached. Test your cars before taking delivery!

Personally I think the dealer should do a free first 1000km check for stuff like this.

You didn't have to pay for anything did you? Is it covered under warranty? I wanna take it in, but I didn't purchase from my local dealer and went 95 miles away to buy my car(wayyy better deal) so not sure if I may run into issues taking it to another dealer instead.

It was covered under warranty. Car only had 50 miles on it. Even gave me a loaner vehicle(which oddly enough had the same alignment issue). You can take it to any dealer but the one you bought it from is more likely to give out a loaner. Also-now with 6,000 miles on it...it's starting to slightly pull again to the right. I doubt they will cover it again if i take it in. I don't get it though. The roads in NC are super smooth-not sure what could be causing this. I'm wondering if it's the car wash pully system that i go to or the tires are just wearing abnormally. Last edited by alpinewhite3; 01-02-2020 at 11:34 AM.. |
