Why does Recirculate air mode keep turning off when heat is on???

When i am in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic i turn on the re-circulate air mode so it doesn't suck in outside polluted exhaust air. It keeps shutting itself off automatically when i have the heat on and starts bringing in outside air. I know these cars have a charcoal filter but i keep getting exhaust smell/fumes and it's super annoying. Any solutions?

Is the a/c engaged? If the a/c is not engaged while the heat is on the windows will fog up with the air set to recirculate. When the heat is on with the a/c engaged the a/c dehumidifies the interior air. If the a/c is not engaged while the heat is on the system draws in outside air to prevent the windows from fogging.

No good answer then, other than the system is sensing the interior is too humid. The recirculate button does have a manual override. It has an automatic setting and a manual setting. You should be able to keep it in recirculate with the manual override.

Edit: it has had a manual override in the past. I was just looking at a photo of the G20 a/c controls and I can’t tell for sure if it can be manually be set.

Previous generations of auto-recirculation can get timed out, if required for too long. The reason, supply of adequate fresh air. Ambient temperature is involved as well, the colder it is, the shorter the duration before a few seconds of fresh air is introduced into the auto-recirculation cycle.

Manual recirculation can be used, but there is the warning that it should not be used for too long, for the same reason of needing adequate fresh air.
