The HVAC system takes a long time to warm up
Hi. This might be in my head but I feel like it takes a while for the air to blow out hot. Even at high temps the air does not feel hot. The car eventually warms up but not super fast. Anyone else notice something around this?

I find the coolant warms up fast and starts blowing air quick, here in freezing Canadian winter it takes about 5 minutes of idling until I get some warm/hot air but yes I agree with it not blowing hot, compared to my friends Nissan Altima I sat in, max temp is not that hot as other cars... I got cooked in my friend Altima

The A/C automatically comes on first to dehumidify the air to reduce window fogging. I remember a dealer recommending doing this manually years ago but many newer car have the feature now.

can this 'lack of quick heat' be because the G20 doesn't have the "hot/cold" wheel like the F30 and E90's? if you turned the wheel to red it warmed up faster... also I know the G20 lost the physical wheel but is there an equivalent "electronic wheel" buried in the menu somewhere? I never had the opportunity to check when I drove one...

Indeed. Hot and also cold air are less noticeable than other cars. But it gets to the desired temp as normal in my opinion.

Did not know that. Thanks for the info! That’s exactly what it felt like. I had it on HI and it almost seemed cool for a minute and gradually got hotter. Within 5/10 min the car was comfortable but the air never felt “hot” so I was confused.

On my F30 it is hot immediately as it does not rely on coolant. It has a separate electric heater core so it's warm air even when the engine is cold. It also doesn't seem to fit up the windows as much even without AC though sometimes the AC comes on even if it is turned off or shows as being off. |

Heat management 'module' in the latest engines is not 'conventional' like previous generation of engines. I note in the data there is a cold-start phase, when the heating is 100% shut off. Whether this is delaying the initial warm-up phase, (which includes the heater), to get more engine heat, improving and emissions and engine efficiency, I can't determine.
I note more models are getting the electric PTC heating element in the HVAC systems. The electric assistance is ambient temperature related, so there could still appear a bit of a delay in heating performance in some conditions. I know my current car with the N55 engine, with conventional heat management, is slower to get cabin heat in cold temperatures than my M57 diesel was, (even being a diesel with slower warm up), due to the diesel having the electric element, whereas the N55 doesn't. |
