Want to remove the spare tire permanently - where can I get the proper cover?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com When I remove the tire and the two pieces that hold it in place, the lid appears smaller than the area its supposed to cover with the tire gone. Is there a separate part I need to acquire to accomplish this? |

Sorry, this is not going to answer your question. I just wanted to say that if you have non-runflat tires, I'd recommend keeping it in. Typically these cars are only optioned with a spare if you have non-runflat tires. You don't want to be stuck 100 miles from home without a spare or runflat tires.
I personally am kinda OCD so I understand why you'd want to keep your trunk as open as possible, but do you actually ever use the full capacity of the trunk? Also, if you needed to expand trunk space, you could always move the spare to the back seat or plan ahead and remove it if you have to pick someone up from the airport or something. Also, I'm curious. Would you be able to send a picture of what it looks like? I've heard the G30 is able to close normally without the spare installed. |

True. My Chevy SS came with one of those instead of a spare as it didn't have runflats. I don't know, though. If I had the option of carrying around a space saver spare, I think I would. That's just me though. I rarely put anything large in my trunk and if I do, I rarely have anyone in the back seat anyway so I can always throw the spare there if I had to.

It may be the case the spare tire is needed to hold the weight of items placed on the trunk floor and it could collapse without it. The floor and space below it without the spare option is designed for it so won't have this problem.

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question but I am wondering how much space does this spare tire take in the bottom of the G20's trunk?
What is an official trunk volume with the space saver tire option? Thanks |

-as noted above do check your tires and if they are not runflats think about some kind of patch kit. At a min just be aware. -what you need is the trunk insert setup from the cars without the spare tire. The best place I can think of is to go to your dealer parts dept and explain what you are looking for. They should hopefully be able to at least identify the part numbers you need, plus if you want order or install it. |

Two things related to the original question:
1) You'll see a photo of the trunk without the space saver spare which I posted, plus an OEM diagram from someone else, in posts #139 and #140 here: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1555055&page=7 It looks to me like there is a fixed version of the "trunk floor" that is different than your removable version. 2) Can you please post a photo of your trunk with the spare removed for comparison? |

This is the trunk liner that is in cars without the spare. You can take out everything associated with the spare and put this liner in and you're good. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_A446 |

That is the first shot I have seen under the rear floor. Ok there is a car battery there. What is the car battery in the front of the car for? Why two Batteries to begin with? Very interesting.

Cant remember a car I have owned in the last ten years that still had a battery in the front. Not like the old Beetle there is no ‘spare engine’ in the trunk/boot

It doesn't have one in the front.

I have an f30 with a spare. The spare sits on top of the floor, bungee cords keep it in place and you still have all the space around the spare for stuff. The once in a while I need more space I just leave it at home. Odds are that I'm not going to get a flat that once in while.

It's up near the firewall in front of the passenger side. I had my windshield changed out the other day and I didn't realize there was one there under the panel. So I guess we have another in the trunk under the panel? I've not tried to pull it up yet. |

I expected only to see starter cable connecting points over there, not a full battery. Never heard about it either. Wondering what it has that..

I believe the front battery is for the vehicle electrics systems, remote ventilation, stop/start etc. The main battery is in the trunk as usual.
