Do TX Roads Demand W&T Package?

I have an M440i that just arrived at the Galveston port. It’s time to make decisions on all the packages.

For those in the central Texas area (Austin) that purchased the wheel and tire package, was it worth it?

With my last BMW I purchased the tire package and it paid for itself within a year. I was driving all over the place so it made sense and it was only $700.

The wheel and tire package today will run about $2,800 for 3 years. Big increase but additional coverage for the wheels could be nice.

For reference, I’ll be commuting from the Belterra area to downtown about 3-4 days per week—290/Y construction or backroads to SWPW are my two routes. I have the 19” 859M wheels with the all season non-run flat tires.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I have 19” Pirelli P7’s on 792M wheels, and it looks like the tire and wheel warranty is paying off. In 39k miles I’ve had one nail, one sidewall bulge, a sidewall bulge blowout, and a six inch slice that was probably from the edge of a pothole. 19” low profile tires really seem to take a beating from potholes.

I keep them inflated to recommended pressures, and so far there does not appear to be any wheel damage.

For Austin? Probably not, you guys have decent roads and highways. Unless you driving on Lamar often.

I’d be more concerned about random debris on the roads like ladders, 2X4s

How much did the dealer charge for the wheel and tire package?

if you have 18s no. If you are 19+ absolutely. These potholes will bend a wheel in a heartbeat

Live in Dallas/Ft. Worth and while our highways are fine, the city streets are generally terrible. I just ordered an M440i with 19'' wheels and I'll definitely be taking a close look at the wheels and tires package.

For real. Do not drive in Plano at all cost. Maybe in 10-15 years, they will add asphalt to entire DFW metroplex.

Moving to Texas has been my the most expensive for car ownership out of every place I've lived. Idaho, Virginia, Germany, and extensive cross nation driving.

Going to Discount Tire so I can get their tire coverage "certificates". My Bridgestone Turanza 005 tires only lasted 6 months and 5 repairs. My PS4 A/S lasted 25K miles and 4 repairs. But I would say I got lucky.

There's so much trash on the intestate in DFW and North Texas...a truck hit something that went across 5 lanes and through my windshield near Grapevine. Thank God it got tangled up in my windshield tint (80%) or I weird have been decapitated.

Anyways...I now get oversized tires for my 792M. 225/45 and 255/40. The extra half inch on sidewall is a huge help

Any thoughts on driving summer tires year round in DFW and North Texas? I'm trying the Continental ControlContact Sport SSR+... It's a UHP A/S. If I like them then good chance I'll just buy a second set of summer tires. The summer heat killed my PS4 A/S pretty quick.

I hate these tire names. Anyways, it's supposedly a great tire for touring. Super quiet and comfortable on terrible roads but still great turn-in and handling characteristics. It's supposedly a variation of the DWS 06.

EDIT: Update. I grabbed the CCS SSR+ and they ride REALLY well. However, the technician gave me an SL rated front set of tires after I told him to change it to XL. Blah. Then, when I was taking photos of the PS4 A/S for warranty claim I noticed I had a lot of heat damage to the tire. I don't track and don't speed at all. The only thing I could be guilty of is taking an interstate on ramp a little too fast. So I'm going to switch to to a summer UHP. Extreme Contact Sport 02
