It's not really a substitute for a dashcam. At best its a backup for whatever dashcam you use.
Just shoddy. If they want an actual subscription, then they should provide sufficient value.

Took mine to the dealer. They had no idea what I was talking about but did get it updated. I see no differences from 7/2021 to 11/2022 so far.

I have no idea why BMW would change that bulletin. What's the point of having/offering software upgrades that improve the car, yet here I am with year and a half old software.

Maybe so. But they’re just telling me to wait till the next rollout. Either I’m gonna end up folding and pay for an early update, try and see what an Indy shop charges to do it, or see how much it is to get my own ista device and do it myself.

I’m having the same issue on my new to me 2020 M340, but in my case car came with some BimmerCode coding (for B&W sound among other things), could that be preventing the update from installing?

Same for me as well. It was at the gym parking lot when I pulled in that it prompted. After I dismissed it that time it never prompted again.
Looks like I had to pay another visit to the dealer.

Welp, $350 out of warranty and I’m up to date now lol. United States 2022/11. Looks like dealers may not have 2023/03 yet, but hopefully I’ll start getting OTA updates now that I’m finally off 2021/07

Functionality is fine. No issues, everything works as suspected. They had no programming failures. All my coding erased fine, and I just coded everything I had back in. So 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ BMW just doesn’t want to update some cars lol

Dealer Language

Had the same problem described here. Software updated loaded via phone to car. Car would not update. Was offered the opportunity to update once at an inconvenient time. Never offered again. Took the car to the dealership and they manually updated. Here is the description of what was done. Hope this helps.

Weirdest thing happened to my 2020 M340, after a long time with the car saying that the 7-2022 update is downloaded and ready to be installed, and never actually installing, suddenly the car is now saying that it’s up to date and that there are no updates available, even though it’s still stuck on 7-2021.

Dealer won’t manually force install the update since the car is not asking for it anymore!!

Has anyone had this happen to them?

Sounds like Bmw have gone into damage control. Software issues causing failure to initiate updates. People going to dealers for manual updates. Dealers charging Bmw under warranty. Bmw screwing people by suddenly making the 2021 soft ware current.

Software update function sucks. Did first two, but could not do 11/2022.

Dealer said battery was not sufficiently charged, despite having come from a 200 mile drive. At 78% They charged up, then performed update.

I suspect there is a issue with batteries and/or battery life. A 3 year old car should not need a new battery, and the battery should charge to near 100%. Warranty up in 3 months, need to figure out how to get a new battery before.

Anyone else have battery issue listed when doing a dealer update?

I have seen many folks post in various forums that the battery was listed as the cause of not being able to update. Since the vehicle uses Brake Energy Regeneration the battery is not constantly being charged. It only charges when coasting or braking unless the SOC is below a specific threshold, I believe 60%. Then alternator will be engaged until it reaches an SOC , I believe 80%.

The same thing happened to me. I just got finished charging up the battery to make sure it was at 100%. The first thing I saw was a message saying the remote software update service was unavailable. When I tried the upgrade again the 07/22 version was gone. A check for update resulted in No Update Available. I am also on 7-2021. I'm hoping BMW pulled the update to release a version that will actually install.

The 07/22 version seems to have been pulled, likely due to the battery drainage issues it caused, and 11/2022.60 is now the OTA version we have seen.

Congratulations! Did the update erase any preset settings? ie seat and mirror positions?

I'm also stuck on 7/21 and will have to bring it to the dealers.

It erased all coding and my seat presets, but the dealer didn’t move my seat position or mirrors so it was easy to just set again. Everything else was same like my idrive preset buttons.

I noticed from 7/21 to 11/22, Apple CarPlay doesn’t always keep something highlighted like when you use the idrive controller to select something. It goes away after non use like it should. Looks much cleaner.

Plus one on the battery not being fully charged…hook up a conditioner for a day and I would be very, very surprised if the software didn’t install straight away.

Don’t automatically think there is something wrong with the battery, it’s the way of the world with modern BMWs.

I’m having the same issue in my X5. Have since December. Was at dealer today and they uploaded the newest version, but didn’t install it. Notes say vehicle will notify when ready - which is what it has always said. Never had a problem with the download, just the install.

Would love some clarity here.
