Sure, the M3/M4 will obviously have a unique design with more aggressively styled intakes and wide fenders similar to the F generation models. But the new grill design that is currently generating all the controversy should be the same on the 4 Series, M3, and M4. Quote:

and hopefully to lower expectations on styling. I can't believe i'm considering a corvette but the C8 looks like a blast and if styling looks anything like the renders for the new M3/4 its probably time to take a break from BMW.... or maybe just buy an M5 (assuming LCI doesn't add some big stupid grille on that too).

Even if the 4 is a early prototype, where is the front radar on the M3? |

The purpose of the larger Kidney grilles is to form an iconic presence from a design stand point. But also to incorporate the technology such as sensors and radar for automated driver assistance.

They do look different, true. At this point since these are still early prototypes, it is difficult to say how this will come together. Currently the expectation is that the same tall grill will be shared between all models of the 4 Series, M4 and M3. Hopefully as more test vehicles appear with less camo, the design will become apparent. Also, a concept is still very possible in September.

Previous BMWs managed to have iconic presence without resorting to out-of-proportion grilles, and if Tesla, arguably the most advanced in self-driving technology, can manage to find places for all their sensors/radars/cameras even without a grille, so can BMW with a smaller one. Are you saying that the 3er, with a smaller grille, will have less technology offerings than the 4er with a much larger one? |

If technology is so cumbersome it has a direct effect on the design of the car itself then u better find new tech. Tail shouldn't wag the dog here, wha a disgrace if that's what controls how a car looks now

Maybe this new direction in the design language has something to do with other markets such as China where this type of styling is more desirable to the consumer.
Just a thought... |

The confusion comes from here:
This is definitively not the same grill behind the camo on the 4 series as wee see on the M3 prototype, the 4 has no grill to the bottom here, there you see the radar in the lower bumper. |
