That can't possibly be true because I was told repeatedly what crap boxes BMWs are when I bought one

I always thought they were reliable for like. 20. years only time Id. complain was fixing something that was from an accident and paying out of. pocket cause everything is that much more expensive.

Nothing to complain about : ) can't complain about our vehicles being reliable.
By the way, if you expand the list on Consumer Report's site, it shows the modern 3-series so G20 is the most reliable in BMW's lineup. Good job BMW, stepped up the game, the very solid B58 also helps too. |

I have had BMWs since mid 90s. Between my wife and I... I did drive a LOT.
525i, 530i, M5 (E28), two E39 E46, E90, f30, now a G20. Fives were spotty. last E39 pretty good, others had oil leaks, radiators, water pumps, etc. Almost give up on brand. M5 was a special case. Had for a year, loved the car but a maintenance nightmare. Threes have been great. Only big issue was a VANOS failure on the E90, but covered under California warranty, full fix at 90K miles! Last F30 and current G20 no repairs, other than one oil leak (under warranty). But, I am very careful about buying used. Too many sellers could not show proof of maintenance. All purchase were BMW CPO cars. Decided the extra $$ was worth it. On the other hand, if you don't care about cars and want most reliable, buy a Honda. |

I had a E39 LCI 530i(Dingolfing) and the build quality was good. The oil leaks did show up around 90k, plus control arm bushes, window regulators. That car was sold @100k miles and 12 years.
The next was a pre-LCI F30 328i(Munich), its build quality was not good, but all were fixed under warranty, and the car had zero repair till 80k miles and 8.5 years when sold last year. The current pre-LCI G20 330i(SLO) has impeccable build quality esp. for a pre-LCI, and I am expecting it can go 100k+ miles/10+ years with minimal issue. |

I’m getting rid of my 16 Audi A6 3.0 with 31k miles. Purchased ( and still waiting for my 23 M340i x drive).
You want terrible reliability? In less than 30 k miles on the Audi, it’s on its 3rd water pump (factory, 2019, 2021). This past summer, had to replace the Electronic Parking Brake Module. Something I’ve rarely even used. One water pump was on my dime. $1700. Module $1800 I’m done with Audi. Shame, as it’s a great looking, driving car. Actually, the most unreliable car I’ve had since purchasing brand new beginning in 1982.

I think VW, and by extension, Audi, is destroying their brand. Due to some mobility issues, i was considering a small SUV, instead of a BMW G20, which I ended up with. VW and Audi driven, as well as BMW X3s.
Audis SUVs were really expensive and surprisingly small inside. Japanese ones fine, as long as you buy the top trim level. Hate the CVT transmissions. I buy CPO cars, and few X3s were available, and prices elevated. Talked to a number of mechanics and the general opinion was VW makes junk. Failure of water pumps, electronics, fuel systems, etc were all mentioned. Mixed on Audi. I liked the VW Tiquan to drive, and the controls were familiar German. But, cannot have an unreliable car now. Hope that the company is fixing the issues. |
