First time it fixed itself after 2 weeks for me too. It's the moisture that causes the short circuit inside the module. When that water evaporates from the module housing - the circuit stops to be shortened and LIN communication from the buttons cluster in driver doors starts to function again.

This time it's been 5 days, and nothing is working. I'm booked for repair on Feb 22nd. I'm out of warranty (car is 3y6months old now, but with only 42k kilometers).
BMW approved replacement at no cost for the driver-side module in December. Dealership will request the same thing for the passenger side module.
I was told that BMW generally approves full or partial coverage for these kind of malfunctions for cars under 5 years and 100k kilometers. Dealership just has to send a request to the BMW center that covers these things in your region/part of the world.

In case driver-side module that's been fixed in December is broken again, I believe they have to replace as a reclamation because all replaced parts have at least 1 year warranty, or something like that.

Will keep you posted.

In my case all the buttons and lights on both doors work just fine, except for passenger side mirror adjustment obviously.

Latest update: Everything started to work again, 7 days after the issue appeared.
All mirror functions, adjustments and folding, power window switches - everything is working again.
It's been very dry these last 10 days, and the car is parked inside a closed garage so moisture eventually evaporated and the electric circuit in the control module is no longer shorted.

Errors are stored in car's memory. I'm booked for replacement of the control module on Feb 22nd.

Been to the dealership last week.
Passenger side mirror control module will be replaced once they receive it. (They don't have the appropriate part on stock currently).

Passenger side mirror module was replaced by the dealership with the updated version last week. BMW approved to coverage full cost of parts and labour despite my car is out of warranty because my car only has 45k kilometers, and this is a known issue on 2018-2020 G20s.

So far, everything seems to be working fine. First pressure wash will tell if the updated module issue is now moisture-resistant.

Anyway - overall a very positive experience with the dealership and BMW central office that approves these cost-free repairs.

My '22 september built G82 driver side mirror is doing the same. Because I had the car PPF-ed, I wash it with a lower pressure power washer (battery powered Kaercher for bicycles and motorcycles) and I do take care not to insist on mirrors. However, it started acting up after two days of heavy rain.

Initially, it failed with the mirrors in driving position, didn't work for a few days, then worked again and yesterday it failed in folded position. Which forced me to unfold it manually. Not a good experience because I may break something.

Until I get it serviced, I disabled the auto-folding on lock and I'm thinking about using a heat blower on low power to get rid of any water it may have inside ... The mirror is photochromic ... Any idea if heat can damage it ?

We had very heavy rains where I live last week. Car was parked outside. After the rains, I noticed that the passenger side mirror wouldn't fold out and when I manually did it, it was hanging loose. Luckily it fixed itself after a few hours.
The next day, the driver's side mirror wouldn't fold in. Luckily it's clicked in place but I cannot fold or adjust it. I was hoping it would fix itself but it's been a week and still no luck.

My car is out of warranty. I'm sure BMW will want like $10k to fix it saying they'll have to replace the mirror and doors and quarter panel and everything (jk). But yes. I see the module is available online for like $120 or so. Anybody know if we can DIY it? I searched YouTube and found a video but that involves some drilling after removing the mirror and I'm not that savvy. Best I can do is probably remove the mirror and the mirror cap at the back.

Any help will be appreciated!

Edit - BMW needs a class action lawsuit for this since there are so many cars with this issue

I have just had this happen to me, I washed my car on Thursday night and everything was working OK afterwards but when unlocking it on Friday morning I noticed the driver’s side mirror wasn’t unfolding. I just found this thread and was wondering if anyone else has had this recently and if they managed to get BMW to sort it for free on an out of warranty car (mine’s a 2019)?

I got both left and right side modules replaced by BMW for free (in Dec '22 (left) and in March '23 (right side) despite my car is manufactured in Aug 2019 and is out of warranty. My mileage is very low - 48k kilometers.

As far as I know, partial or full repair coverage can be requested for these kind of failuers for cars under 5yr and 100.000km.

So, you should made your dealer aware of this and they should request this from BMW repair center. I was lucky to get a 100% coverage (both work and parts).

Today my Jan 20 G21 passenger mirror wouldn’t unfold. Left it for a couple of hours and it now works. Disabled the auto fold function in the idrive so it doesn’t happen again before I can get it booked in to my BMW dealership. It’s out of warranty but car has less than 30,000 miles and not quite 4 years old so will be interesting to hear what they have to say about covering the cost of a known issue.

Has anyone repaired this themselves?

Did you have to replace the entire assembly or just the electronics (part 11 here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_A332)

Just the electronics have to be replaced. (Part 11) However, BMW has a one-time use kit for disassembling and re-assembling the mirror. Without that kit, you cannot reassemble the mirror as dissasembling it requires drilling through the central joint with the metal spring.

Also, note that part 11 has been revised by BMW. Newer version comes with improved water resistance.

Thanks. What is the part number of the kit?

Clarifying question: How do I know for sure it's the board (part 11) and not something else (such as the inside switch)?

Things not working:
1. Mirror adjustment
2. Folding
3. Blindspot orange triangle

Thing working:
1. Side Blinker
