I'll say, the new 4 has a new futuristic look for sure. I just dislike them rounding out where it should be sharp aggressive edges!

Everyone thinks their younger years are the classical years. They’re not. 90s are not classical BMW era. G22 looks more like classical BMWs then what FXX looked like.

Not everyone is part of obsessive hating internet mob making everything about the grills. One might like just black cars, just because he likes black cars.

Some aspects are slightly better but some are a whole lot worse, including the absence of key BMW designs. The larger greenhouse is gone, as is the H. kink. It's becoming generic, and maybe that's part of the reason behind the grille, realizing the the rest of it was unoriginal. Essentially an 8-series clone without the kink. In fact the windows have a similarity to Audi's A5 line. The back lights, copying Audi. Other companies have gone thin but kept the design language consistent. You can have a snapshot of the just part of the light and you know which car it belongs. This new BMW, I don't think it's distinguished enough.

There will be those who claim stakeholders/accountants make these choices and they are probably right, but the better question is "is the company confident enough in their product to put their collective foot down and say 'we will sell a car that will pay you bastards the desired dividend AND keep the heritage alive.'?" How much is driven by the Chinese market? What are the Chinese laws concerning pedestrian safety? Compared to European laws?

I think this is a wrong step in the wrong direction.

It's also significantly longer and wider...

The new 4 Series is not a BMW lol

Its a poseur with gimmicky styling- fake vents, diffusers and grill.

F32 looks better in every way and actually look more modern. It will continue to age well.

The G22 is the 996 911 for BMW!

Eh, BMW tries to pull this retro/successor thing a lot. Bangle was banging on about how the E82's design was inspired by the 02 Series and that it was its spiritual successor. Guess what the marketing dept. did with the M235i - same crap. Compared it to the 2002 again.

The vertical kidneys just don't work... definitely not the way they are now on the 4er. The whole thing seems too busy and bloated, too.

All I see in the front side-by-side photo is Bruce Banner and the Hulk from the TV show when the did the screenshot of both of them. The new 4 looks like the Hulk and no one ever said the Hulk looked better.

That picture is helping prove my point.

Putting HUGE vertical and wide grills on a car is not classical.

Neither of those two classic BMWs have grills that take up over half the front end.

Sadly that's the "form language" they're using moving forward.
