My overall impression is that Dukec is interested in neither the actual heritage nor the people (enthusiasts) but rather solely focused on making a name for himself. His sociopathy is well described in his ability to shrug and ignore all criticism- a quality well-known in Chris Bangle.... Actually, it is my belief that Dukec will go the way of Bangle and resign in disgrace.

The F32 isn't a bad looking car but there's a lot of creases going on and I like the clean and tidy side profile of the G22 better as it looks more graceful and will age better. I also think the pony car rear styling lends to a more muscular rear profile. I know putting the kink upside down breaks tradition but IMO it looks better on this car and I'm glad that styling won out over tradition here. Once people get over the front grill they will grow to love the styling of this car.

Based on his interview that I read it seems that he doesn't care about any BMW heritage. He's in charge, he's going to change everything and we will be happy with it.

I never really thought the F32 looked great, it kind of had a weird kink in the front of the hood and really needed to be in aggressive M-sport trim to look halfway decent IMO. M4 solved a lot of this and just flowed better IMO. That doesn't mean I think the G22 looks good though. I just go back to the F36 (biased) that I thought looked better than either the 3 or the 4 coupe, just flowed right. Just in general, I think the "regular" 4, 6 and 8 coupes are something that BMW has never done great, compared to the rest of their cars. I think their power has been in cars like the M3, M5, etc., which offer performance on par with other manufacturer's two-door offerings.

So far not very impressed with Dukec. If he was responsible for the 7 series as well, it is a nail in the coffin for me. Sounds rather arrogant and lacking true skill.

I don't like the rear panel. I never liked when Honda, or whomever, used that style of hoffmeister kink.

But what do these guys know about design anyway
I'm not wild about the rear panel in the DB11 either. The Ferrari is an entirely different design, and car, from the G22. Most elements that fit one won't fit the other.

While I certainly disagree when it comes to some 6 and 8 models not looking great I agree about the strength of the M3 and M5 sedans vs other manufacturers two door cars.

Here’s a bit of a forgotten beauty that isn’t featured that often.

I think this statement right here encapsulates the BMW corporate mentality very well. His ego is greater than his skill and an attack questioning his vision is taken as a personal attack, so he has to reduce and deflect.

He would make a great neoliberal politician.

The car is ugly, period. The car looks confused, period. This is bad design that only appeals to those unfamiliar with BMW and that is its target audience. I bet lease rates are going to be great.

That may be it but let the market speak for itself.

If history is any indication of future performance, I suspect this car will outsell its predecessor.

Remember the highly polarizing BMW E65 7 Series with the Bangle butt? It was the most hated and controversial design ever but it was also the best selling 7er generation in history. Sales records of the E65 have yet to be topped by the 2 generations that replaced it.

Very true, the polarizing designs did very well sales wise, although the only problem is now its very hard to predict future sales in a world that wants crossovers over anything remotely more interesting as well as an unknown future of the economy. But it will be very interesting to see how this new 4er will do, especially the gran coupe which outsells the coupe and vert combined. i4 sales should also be very interesting depending on if it is going to come out on schedule.

The new big grille 4 series looks like a Chinese knockoff BMW. While the G20 sedan grille looks better stille ugly how it cuts up into the hoodline. best looking grille is on the 8 series.

The tail is a big improvement, the side may be too smooth; I imagine the designers thinking that would play better with all the "activity" up front. I want to like the grille, I really have tried, but it looks disproportionate.

Nonetheless, I'd swallow it all to have a Bimmer with 0Km on it again...
