I'm a bigger fan of the 2014-2019 models.. maybe I'm not use to the 2020 yet. Haven't seen it in person.. but I fancy the aggressive contour the previous version have!

Really? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. How about derivative? It's not much different than previous generations or anything else on the playing field today in terms of a profile. Q60?

From the side it looks like a smaller 8 series. And despite hating this car, i dont get the hate the new hoffmeister kink gets. It's the same thing, it's just that the rear window has an upwards tilt, which makes the whole car more dynamic if you ask me.

Why is the rear overhang so big though? In general, why did they make this car bigger?

It has A/S/RS5 side profile, similar c pillar.

The Audi forums are in total laughter currently.
Exactly!

You bring in the guy from Audi and the very first godforsaken year all of your cars start to look like Audi's? Really? I'm not an Audi hater It was my first German vehicle but holy shit if I would've know that both companies was going to merge (&#129315 I would've stayed put lol.

It looks like aerodynamics has dictated the G22’s design to much larger degree than the earlier generations. More effort to keep the pressurized air from getting under the car and disturbing the fast flowing low pressure air. The rear flat deck under the c-pillars and the deeper trap along the doors channeling the air from what hopefully is a real front fender vent are examples of that. The wing like blades in the bumper air intakes another.

Maybe not enough to make much difference on the M440i but I bet we’ll see it on the M4 when more aggressive splitter, side skirts etc. is added.

Here is a very good description on what tweaks in these areas alone can do to downforce for those interested.

There is the rear end that is becoming really big and long.
What I really like about bmw is the really short front overhang and slightly elongated rear, but this is becoming ridiculous.

I am sure it agile etc. but the proportions are getting out of reality, is it now bigger than a prior 5 series?

That was one of the first thing I noticed as well after lining these up. How long the rear overhang is compared to earlier generations. I guess they wanted to keep from increasing the wheel base to keep the car more agile but I can’t say I understand the reason for the longer rear behind the wheels. Maybe something to do with i4 platform sharing and space for a EV components?

E92 was the perfect size and styling that still looks great today.

This G22 Edition is the BMW version of the 996.

Looks like varying degrees of shit. The front is despicable. The side has that kink over the rear wheels which only the Dodge Challenger has. Rear looks like an Infiniti Q60.

G22 looks like an upper-class car relative to the older models. And it’s definitely the best looking of the bunch.

As member funkahdafi mentioned, the 4 is now fully it’s own design which share very little if any design with the 3 and that is very cool and welcome. I just wish the interior followed as it does on the 8 vs 5.

BMW now have a family of coupes with the 4 and 8 instead of the 4 being a 2 door sedan as in earlier generations.

Not really. I for one absolutely adore the new design. Finally something new, refreshing, and not the same old, same old. And finally really a lot different than the 3 series. The 4 has become its own car with this.

Also, I really think the pic in the opening post doesn't do the car justice. Take this:

Totally agree. For me best looking BMW in decades. Now G20 looks like Passat compared with new G22

Images speak by themselves. DNA they say? What a joke!
