Remember when a BMW was identifiable when looking in your rear view mirror. Now a days a BMW looks so generic and so boring . Bring back Angel Eyes or Corona rings they were BMW.

The headlights for newest BMW models(x1, i5) look cross eyed to me from the front. I expect the lci have same effect. I think it’s still better than double underscore running lights that been used on many last/current gen cars, since they are so generic.

As far as g80/82 exterior design goes, head of BMW design stated that only 1 in 5 customers (2021) likes it. I think that it’s quite telling. Now on any other metric it’s much better car and I bet many owners that got over exterior, or truly enjoy it, will love it.

Let's be honest, if it's a real BMW driver, you wouldn't see any headlights.

You'd see the windshield of a car in your rear view lol

We love the lights on our X7.

But I wish they would leave the M3 etc alone. There is something sacred about these lights.

Looks good to me....but still disappointing they continue to ditch the iconic rings.

Im so tired of all this shit BMW does these days. How is it possible to ruin and fuck up their brand like this. Its sad times to be a BMW enthusiast.

The fact that a decent chunk of people refuse to accept that beauty can be an objective fact almost-certainly proves that they fail to understand the meaning of the word "objective".
The F3x in that photo is objectively a better looking vehicle than the G2x. Objectivity is determined by unbiased opinion grounded in factual observations over a large set of data. One can argue whether the opinion even has to be unbiased, especially over a large set of data, but let's not go that far.

These headlights seem to be aligning with the design of the NK which has the angled lights integrated into the wide grille. I think that’s the “iconic” look that BMW is moving towards.

For what it’s worth, I think they look fine on the car, but the housing seems a little cheap up close.

Does anyone know if the base lights will also change? (I assume these are replacing the laserlight option).

Also, any idea if the grill will change? Not neccessarily its size (apparently that will stay the same) but the shape and design of it.

No, that's a whole lot of words but that's not right, actually.

All that matters is that the buyer who buys it, likes it.

Simple.

Because if you don't like it, you keep the one you have or buy something else that you do like.

I hate olives, think they're disgusting, yuck. But no olive farm is obligated to make an olive that I find agreeable, just for me. They grow what they grow, they ship what they ship, and olive lovers buy them and olive haters don't and the world keeps spinning and everyone is happy.

What leads to generic and boring BMW's are people who hang onto the design language of the past- like Angel Eyes.

We can't have it both ways. We either want a traditional BMW (like the G20) or we want the antithesis of that, something unconventional and not boring (like the G26).

And I think that's what BMW has done. They've made the 3 Series boring and they've made the 4 Series exaggerated so anyone wanting a four door sedan has that choice. It's very smart. Can't see why anyone could ever complain.

And atop that, we live in a world of startup electric brands providing more choice in this segment than ever before. If BMW doesn't make you happy, about two dozen others can. You couldn't say that 10 years ago, even 5.

The stunted chevrons on this and the new 5 series look so bad. They put a full chevron on the X5/X6 and it looks good, though I disagree with that style direction. Why can't they do a full chevron on the cars? I don't get it.

I also have a G26 and every day I ask myself why they had to mutilate the frontend with that fugly grill. Also the rest of the car is more lexus styled than BMW. When you think that's innovation that's ok, I just believe it's poor design. BTW, I didn't opt for the 3 since there is no i3 edrive 40 offered.

Very well written but you’re contradicting yourself by stating 3 as boring and 4 as an exaggerated design because you said earlier it depends on the buyer.

For me 3 is timeless and 4 is trying too hard.
Also, timeless can’t be boring.
